Epic Fail

Ann Romney is Really Bad at Interviews

Ann Romney accompanied Mitt Romney on his trip to Iowa today where he endorsed Steve King, and she participated in an interview with local news channel KWQC but didn't answer any of the interviewer's questions.

KWQC TV6: "Here in Iowa, as you know, same-sex marriage is legal. Do you believe a lesbian mother should be allowed to marry her partner?"

Ann Romney: "You know, I'm not going to talk about the specific issues. I'm going to let my husband speak on issues. I'm here to really just talk about my husband and what kind of husband and father he is and, you know, those are hot-button issues that distract from what the real voting issue is going to be at this election. That, it's going to be about the economy and jobs." [...]

KWQC TV6: "Do you believe that employer-provided health insurance should be required to cover birth control?"

Ann Romney: "Again, you're asking me questions that are not about what this election is going to be about. This election is going to be about the economy and jobs."

[...]

KWQC TV6: "Well, I don't want to pull you off any message. You just told a reporter who was questioning you in Cleveland that you want women to have a secure and stable future. I asked you about marriage and whether lesbian mothers should be allowed to marry. Isn't marriage a part of creating a stable future?"

Ann Romney: "You know, again, I'm going to talk to you about the economy and about job creation and about how my husband is the right person for the right time. This is going to be an election that is very important for women, and we are going to make sure that their economic prosperity is more certain under a President Romney."

Quit asking me questions! I'm not here to talk about that! Why are you people bullying me? Let me spew my talking points!

I'm not sure what the point of agreeing to an interview is if you've already decided for the interviewer what the questions and answers will be. And every question KWQC attempted to ask was legitimate. You can view the full transcript here.

In contrast, Michelle Obama addressed every one of those questions during prime-time in front of the entire nation.

  • ArrogantDemon

Michelle Obama endorses marriage equality on national TV with no fear, Miss Ann runs away from it like the plague, so, who again is the lady of the people……

Do we even need to take score anymore?

How the fuck you’re not gonna answer the questions and say its not about the election when your husband’s party platform has it as a negative?

  • Carabella1

The issues are what WE the People decide; not Ann-toinette.

  • If you stood between A romney and M romney, you’d be the “tain’t”.lol
You know where the tain’t is, don’t you;~)

  • i_am_allwrite

After about the third brush off the interviewer should have changed the subject and just asked Ann straight-out if her asshole is hairy and unbleached.

    • Haha, I would pay money to see her eaction to that question!! LMAO

    • JackDaniel07

chocolate milk just shot out my nose, thanks

  • walt kovacs

    sascha can speak mandarin

what’s mandarin for…EFF YOU WHITE DEVIL

    • anthonydewar420

“Ta shi hen bu hao” is mandarin for “she is very bad.” That’s a start lol.

You could go all out and call her a “Ta shi da pigu” “She is a big ‘female dog'”

Maybe go with “Ta shi da yindao” for “she is a big vagina”.

I would say “Ta shi chi da yindao” which means, “she eats big vagina”, but I know the Rupublicans don’t believe in such a thing.

  • walt kovacs

emptyheaded, mormon, bimbo, baby making machine that we are supposed to feel for cuz she survived cancer…only because her baby’s dadddy is rich and can afford the best care

    eff her

  • She tends to think of the interviewer as “the help”, and has recently become angry and shown her contempt to another interviewer.

This is just how Ann Romney rolls.

Adding…..I thought her convention speech was awful (she received much praise for it, however), especially the first 10-15 minutes of it, it seemed to me that she came across as a complete phony.

Adding again …….”You know, again, I’m going to talk to you about the economy and about job creation

Oh please…..as if she knows a single damn thing about either of those topics.

    • Patronizing…”I LOVE YOU WOMEN!!”

      • Exactly. It’s so phony I can’t understand why even Republican women bought it.

Ann Romney has absolutely nothing to offer this country.

        • C’mon, she’s got a dancing horse?

    • mrbrink

In retrospect, I thought this was obvious:

Study: First Lady’s convention speech seven grade levels higher than Ann Romney’s:

“The speech First Lady Michelle Obama delivered at Tuesday night’s Democratic convention read at a twelfth grade level, according to an analysis by a University of Minnesota political scientist, making it, by that measure, the most complex speech delivered by a presidential candidate’s spouse at a nominating convention.”

“By contrast, the speech delivered by Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s wife, Ann, checked in at a fifth grade reading level. Romney’s speech marked the lowest reading level for a spouse’s convention speech since the practice first began in 1992, according to Eeic Ostermeier, the Minnesota political scientists.”

Ann Romney insults the intelligence of the free world and her allies have spent their lives stoning and ridiculing Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, Elizabeth Warren, Sandra Fluke, Teresa Heinz Kerry, Rachel Maddow, on and on just off the top of my head.

Ann Romney isn’t smart enough to speak to the Obama daughters, let alone women, education, economic liberty, or civil rights.

Can you imagine? What fucking country did these asinine royalist grow up in?

      • There is no doubt that Ann Romney is far from being the equal of Michelle Obama…….no contest there whatsoever.

“Ann Romney isn’t smart enough to speak to the Obama daughters, let alone women, education, economic liberty, or civil rights.”

That’s why her convention speech was all about ” I love you women” and “you can trust my husband” blah blah blah.

        Sheesh……..I can’t stand the woman!

        • Brutlyhonest

While you’re both correct, no one who reads and comments here regularly was her target audience. Her speech was appropriately written for the target. Too bad her delivery screamed “god don’t let any of these filthy plebes touch me!”

      • JMAshby

What fucking country did these asinine royalist grow up in?

        Real America!

      • LoewLife

I feel like at 5th grade I was reading much more complex writings than Ann’s speech. What was her longest sentence, like 6 words? It’s an insult to 5th graders everywhere.

        • Honestly, my 9 year old is in fourth grade but reads at a 7th grade level BUT she is gifted. Most kids aren’t that bright and read right at or even below their grade level. I don’t mean to sound like a snob but thats just the truth. The average IQ in the US is what, 100? That’s only about one standard deviation above officially mentally slow.

      • incredulous72

I think that study also speaks to the reading levels of the constituents in each party as well. 😉

Seriously, it’s not that I think that Ann Romney is not intelligent and inarticulate, but the republicans know that the yahoos that make up their party are and they have to relate to them, therefore they dumbdown the speeches so folks will “git it”.

    • agrazingmoose

Did they do that interview in her house (sorry, one of her houses)? Because, if I remember correctly from my days of working in an auction house, that ugly porcelain dog statue over her shoulder is worth a bloody fortune.

      • Not sure moose. I wouldn’t be surprised. After all, it’s their job to visit the Great Lady of the Manor rather than the reverse. 🙂

  • She’s not bad at interviews. She is just like her husband–a condescending ass.

  • “Sorry gays, your love – that my husband will keep illegal, by the way – isn’t even a real issue.”

  • Nefercat

“I’m not sure what the point of agreeing to an interview is if you’ve already decided for the interviewer what the questions and answers will be. ”

Kind of like Palin announcing at the start of the VP debate that she wasn’t going to answer the questions, she was going to yap about whatever she wanted to. She should never have been allowed to get away with that.

And yes, of course, Queen Ann should just do occasional photo ops and have a minion issue periodic press releases instead of “interviews.”

  • KABoink_after_wingnut_hacker

    The good Mormon wife indeed.
Willard doesn’t have to answer specifics, so why should I….afterall,”You people” should know this by now.

  • muselet

“Again, you’re asking me questions that are not about what this election is going to be about. This election is going to be about the economy and jobs.”

Except the Republican Party’s own platform addresses these exact hot-button issues, so someone in the GOP—and the Romney campaign, which approved every plank—thinks the election will be about them as well.

    Oy.

Ann Romney has a very specific role to play in this campaign: to humanize her husband. That’s it. She’s not going to speak about anything else; if asked, she will default to her talking point, singular—unfortunately for her, she’s just not very good at it.

    –alopecia

    • JackDaniel07

      Who then will humanize her?

  • I dislike it when people keep saying this election is all about the economy. NO it is not. It is about the economy, health, foreign policy, civil rights, women’s health, the future of the Supreme Court, what type of people will be in the next cabinet etc. It is not just about one issue. Presidents influence policy in many areas, not just the economy. We need to know whether people like Rick Santorum or Todd Akin will end up in a Romney cabinet and what his views are on these subjects.

    • agrazingmoose

Yes, but the Romney’s know that they are toast when it comes to those other issues. So, for them, it is all about the economy.

      • If it’s toast on the “other” issues then (esp. w/ Ryan) it’s, like, bread in a nuclear blast when it comes to the economy.

  • omg

    • Miranda

I really didn’t think there would be anyone worse than Palin….boy was I wrong.

      • Not quite comparable: the horribleness of Palin very much owed to the proposition that she could be a heartbeat away from the Presidency.

Also, Palin had palpable issues, due to her public visibility (as a Mayor, then Governor). Ann is “just” a mom.

And there are lots of other differences (cough class cough) that make comparisons sort of apples/orangy
