Arrested Developments

Shitty headline. I know.

Anyway. Zaid Jilani at ThinkProgress has been on fire recently. For example, this:

Over 1,000 Americans Have Been Arrested Protesting Wall Street, While Bankers Have Dodged Major Prosecutions

The problem, though, is that prosecutors and regulators don't have the budgets or the expertise required to unravel the labyrinthine schemes the financial sector invented. The only guy who was even close, Elliot Spitzer, couldn't keep his wanger away from hookers -- a critical weakness when you're making lots of very wealthy enemies.

So I don't really anticipate any arrests anytime soon. Sadly.

Good god did Spitzer piss me off with that nonsense! HE HAD JUST BEEN ELECTED TO THE GOVERNORSHIP!!!

That guy made some powerful enemies, but he didn’t give a shit. As you said, too bad he couldn’t keep his pants up.

Whatever you think of Suskind and his new book, he says that Wall Street took down Elizabeth Warren because they didn’t want a superstar regulator that would attract new talent.

Well the same is true of my hero Spitzer.

  • Matt Taibbi has written extensively, and brilliantly on this issue.

If only we could put these people where they so rightfully belong.
