In other news, Italian scientists say data presented by Russian authorities as proof their vaccine was tested include data that is "unlikely," such as test subjects with identical antibody counts, among other things.

I'm shocked -- shocked! -- that Russia's overnight vaccine may not be on the level.

Meanwhile, AstraZeneca has halted their vaccine trial because of unexpected developments in test subjects. A woman experienced "neurological symptoms" after being injected, the CEO says.

Finally, Biden rightfully tore into Trump today after hearing the news he knew the virus was a threat all along.

“He knew how deadly it was. He knowingly and willingly lied about the threat it posed for months,” Biden said in Michigan ahead of a speech on the economy. “He failed to do his job, on purpose!” he said, adding that the decision cost “tens of thousands of lives and millions more of American livelihoods.” [...]

Biden called the revelation “beyond despicable.”

This is all I've been able to think about today. Everything was worse because Trump deliberately allowed it to happen that way.

    • Odds were, the Russian vaccine was never going to be a real thing (science doesn’t move that quickly, for one thing), and those unlikely (lovely understatement there) results confirm everyone’s suspicions.

    • It’s not uncommon for vaccine trials to be paused for something unexpected. Until I hear otherwise from a reliable source, I’ll tentatively assume the neurological symptoms are not related to the vaccine.

    • “Beyond despicable” is the kindest possible way to describe Donald Trump’s behavior. Good on Joe Biden for saying it.

For the second time in all our lives, all that had to happen in order to prevent massive amounts of literal death and destruction was to simply not have elected a Republican to the White House. The contrast between what could have happened and what has actually happened could not be more clear or more stark. Or horrifying.

The phrase “both sides” should be permanently excised from the American political lexicon.

Sometime I wonder where we’d be if it had been Clinton-Gore-Obama-Clinton.

So do I and it depresses me that as a collective we were too stupid for it.

Really? Have a look at the mess cities are in that keep voting Democrat.

        • Christopher Foxx

Well, let’s see. In near every measure of prosperity and citizen welfare people are doing better in states run by Democratic governors. And those Democrat-run cities are doing far better in controlling the spread of COVID than Republican-run ones where the Mayors think it’s some attack on freedom to suggest folks take teh simplest of measures to protect themselves.

Yeah, they aren’t perfect by any means. But at least the Democrats aren’t actively trying to kill me.

But my pet issue is going to be addressed in exactly the way I want… So I will sit on my ass and pine for the revolution to solve all my problems.

I work with someone who thinks rants very much along those lines. Sooner or later I’m gonna lose it with him.
