Healthcare Supreme Court

Be Careful What You Wish For

If you're a red state conservative you're probably hoping that the Supreme Court will smite Obamacare and bring chaos to the United Stated healthcare system, but you should be careful what you wish for.

According to a new report, red states will be hit the hardest if the Supreme Court rules against the federal government, and it's not even very close. About 60 percent of those who would lose their subsidies live in red states.

[The] people who currently rely on subsidies to help them pay for plans purchased on Obamacare’s federal marketplaces are more highly concentrated in red states, according to the latest report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which provides the most accurate snapshot so far of Obamacare enrollment.

Across the country, about 10.2 million people are covered under plans that they purchased through Obamacare’s marketplaces, according to HHS officials.

Out of the 10.2 million people who receive subsidies through the marketplace, 6.4 million of them live in states that chose not to establish a state exchange and instead rely on the federal exchange. And as you're probably aware, states that chose not to establish their own exchange are predominately (but not exclusively) conservative.

I would guess that many people in the most vulnerable states have no understanding of what the consequences of this could be. It would be a pyrrhic, ideological victory that will destabilize the healthcare industry in their home states and ruin a lot of lives, including the lives of their family and neighbors.

It remains to be seen if the Supreme Court justices understand what the consequences could be.

Here’s how it will play out should the Five Disdainful Asswipes Supreme Court smite Obamacare:

    – Blamezkrieg Obama and the Democrats for introducing it in the first place only to see it gutted and thus turning the entire health care system on its ear.
    – Campaign furiously against Democrats in the next federal election over first reason using lots and lots of dark Koch Bros. money.
    – Gullible voters buy into it and vote Republicans into power.
    – Republicans then tell their constituents to go eat shit and die, you fucking moochers looking for a handout to cover your medical expenses.

    American Democracy: FUCK YEAH!!! >:P

Example #23,746 of Why We Can’t Have Nice Things in America. The people who need them don’t want them because they think they don’t need them. People who want them but don’t need them, want those who do need them to have them. People who have them want the people who need them to not have them, and manage to convince the people who need them that they don’t need them and don’t want them.

If only reality had any impact on what conservatives think. I predict that, if things go that way and those 60% loses their subsidies, they, or the people who feed them their lies, will simply blame Obama for the lose of their coverage. And they will be all too willing to accept that line of thinking.

No, and they’ve been living inside the Fox News bubble for so long, they’ll blame Obamacare for destroying the Murcan system of healthcare, just like that nice Steve Doocy says. “Socialism don’t work,” they’ll intone solemnly and go back to dying prematurely from treatable conditions.

And, sadly, the majority of the Supremes fully understand and don’t care about the consequences.

Is there really anything where the “red states” wouldn’t be hit hardest if the federal gov’t stopped doing what it does? It’s the red states that suck most heavily on the public teet, being given the tax dollars that come from the other, more responsible states.

But yet conservatives insist that liberals are the moochers, unable to hold a job or pay for anything on their own.

But again, why let facts get in the way of their stereotyping?

It certainly would be a first for them.
