Bipartisanship

Krugman has a good point here about how bipartisanship won't fix the economy.

Despite the campaign rhetoric, I never really thought the president-elect was suggesting congressional bipartisanship -- in that he would somehow attempt to seek a middle way and abandon large chunks of his (thankfully) liberal legislative agenda. The Obama approach to bipartisanship is largely one of tone and appearance, rather than policymaking. And that's what we've seen so far.

Bipartisanship, as Krugman reminds us, is about mutual compromise and the congressional Republicans are incapable of that. The president-elect has to know this -- he has to know that any attempts to compromise with the congressional Republicans will destroy his presidency. Just ask Majority Capitulator Reid.
