Birther Posse Sheriff Joe Arpaio is Running for Senate

Written by SK Ashby

Former Maricopa County sheriff and birther posse ring-leader Joe Arpaio announced this morning that he's running for Jeff Flake's seat in the Senate.

“I have a lot to offer. I’m a big supporter of President Trump,” Arpaio told the Examiner. “I’m going to have to work hard; you don’t take anything for granted. But I would not be doing this if I thought that I could not win. I’m not here to get my name in the paper, I get that everyday, anyway.” [...]

“I still support [Trump]. It doesn’t matter what his position is on me running,” Arpaio said. “But I’m sure he’ll know he’ll have a big ally in Washington, and he sure needs [someone] to get his programs and agenda done.”

If Democrats are going to regain control of the Senate, it will probably require winning the race for Flake's seat.

I would personally relish the opportunity to destroy Joe Arpaio during the upcoming campaign season but, the thing is, he still has to win the GOP primary and he may not even be the most batshit Republican in the running. Arpaio and vicious nutcase Kelli Ward must compete in a crazy-off for primary votes before we'll know who will face the Democratic challenger.

Democrats also have a primary vote to navigate, but unless someone else enters the race I believe the Democratic nominee will be Rep. Krysten Sinema.

Regardless of who wins the Democratic primary, there's no doubt they'll be better than whichever racist conspiracy theorist the GOP nominates.
