Thank you, Mr. President
President Bill Clinton while walking through Central Park this week...
VERBAL MUGGER: You were an embarrassment to the office of commander-in-chief!
PRESIDENT CLINTON: Oh, really? I think I did a helluva job... I'll admit I misled people about my personal life. And I have even apologized for it, but I never misled the people about policy and I certainly never misled the people about going to war. I hope your children turn out to be as perfect as you are, sir.
From the New York Daily News.

Clinton's wrongs and Bush's wrongs should not be viewed by comparison. I think part of the problem here is that when we do that, we're simply trying to one-up people who think differently on policy.
"Oh yeah, well Clinton was a lying sack of shit"
"Yeah, well, he lied under oath about blowjobs, but your guy misled people about WAR"...
Come on...the behavior of one president does NOT excuse or vilify the behavior of another. This sort of thinking is counterproductive to finding realistic solutions to current problems. Blame is no longer an option, nor is namecalling, nor is railing against Clinton or creaming yourself over him. God DAMMIT I hate when this stuff gets front page billing.

Clinton: lied under oath about oral sex. $60 million investigation, impeachment, high profile media lynching.
Bush: deceived Congress and citizens about reasons for war; authorized violations of the Geneva Accords; is an accomplice to treason; engaged in illegal detention of American citizens; and tampered with the 2000 and 2004 elections. To name a few. No investigation, no impeachment, no high profile media lynching.
That's the point of putting this on the front page.

I love it when stuff like this gets front page billing. You know why? 'Cause we're not living in a bipartisan love-in. When right-wingers are under the microscope, they want cooperation and brotherhood, but when roles are reversed, they turn into freakin' assassins. I seriously believe that if Bush gunned down a nun in cold blood, right-wingers would support him. "Well, he's the president. The president is more important than one nun. Let's look at her past. Doesn't she know a guy who used to be a Communist? Oh, Bill Clinton told a lie, and not telling a lie is the bedrock on which our nation is built. Impeach."
What REALLY steams my clams, though, is the right-wing assertion (or is it assumption?) that their vicious attacks are for the greater good but that, for the good of the country, we shouldn't be criticizing Bush. Man, f' that noise, Jack! Peddle that junk to the tourists.
Yeah, the two presidents are comparable. Of COURSE they are, because they represent two ideologies and sets of results. I say, compare away. Although I admit it - if I were a Bush supporter, the last thing I'd want is such a comparison.

Not only should we compare Bush's wrongs vs. Clinton's wrongs, but we should make as big an issue as we can of the reaction to Bush's wrongs vs. the reaction to Clinton's wrongs. From the pundits. The media. The public.
We have to play their game better than they do. Liberals have for too long rolled over with that mamby-pamby "name-calling and stooping to their level will get us nowhere" bullshit. Fuck all that. Strike back and strike back hard.
