And justice for all...
Is it 2008 yet? Please say 'yes'.
WASHINGTON, March 5 - The Bush administration's secret program to transfer suspected terrorists to foreign countries for interrogation has been carried out by the Central Intelligence Agency under broad authority that has allowed it to act without case-by-case approval from the White House or the State or Justice Departments, according to current and former government officials.

The DNC chair sounds...like a Democrat!
Whether you like Howard Dean or not, you cannot deny he is a man of his word. Speaking the other day in Jackson, Mississippi, the new DNC boss said, "The way we're going to win elections in this country is not to become Republican lite. The way we're going to win elections in this country is to stand up for what we believe in."
Not the kind of talk you were likely to hear from Terry Mcauliffe, candidate Gore in 2000 or candidate Kerry in 2004.
Dean is a smart guy. He knows the massiveness of the machine he's up against.
The questions are:
1. Can Dean build an organization that can win back the senate and the WH? That means victories with margins big enough to overcome factors like Deibold and Ken Blackwell.
2. Can Dean raise the serious amounts of cash needed to fuel such an organization?
3. Can Dean use his leverage to help fund liberal media beyond Air America, Pacifica, and the blogs? This is key to helping reach the majority of Americans (who, according to the latest NYT/CBS poll, think Bush is out of step with American values) who would likely vote Dem if they weren't being lied to on a daily basis by their news outlets.

U.S. human rights record called out by China
Did you ever think that we'd be accused of human rights violations by the likes of China? The report from Beijing:
"In 2004 the atrocity of US troops abusing Iraqi POWs exposed the dark side of human rights performance of the United States. The scandal shocked the humanity and was condemned by the international community. It is quite ironic that on Feb. 28 of this year, the State Department of the United States once again posed as the 'the world human rights police' and released its Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 2004."

Pathetic. Nothing like setting a good example.

Republicans continue to hate the troops
The Republicans in Congress are opposing the exemption of veterans from their horrible bankruptcy bill. Of course Bayh and Durbin on the Democratic side are pushing to have the troops exempted, but the GOP have killed the effort... clearly because they hate the troops.
Get the 2006 ads ready because the Republicans are not only screwing us, the nation, and the American soldier, but they're screwing themselves.
From dKos:
The Senate rejected Tuesday an effort backed by Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., to exempt service members from some of the tighter bankruptcy restrictions Congress is considering. Instead, the Senate approved a Republican-backed amendment that Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate, said is not good enough.
"Is it too much to ask to give them a break if the bottom falls out while they're serving America?" Durbin said.
...
"It's just not right (that) those who we have called upon to make the ultimate physical sacrifice -- loss of life or limb -- should also be forced to make the ultimate financial sacrifice," Bayh said.
In case you don't know, the bankruptcy bill would force you to pay back the money used to bail you out in case you have to declare. So much for the "ownership society".

Every Democrat in the country needs to repeat the mantra at every turn: "The Republicans hate the troops!" And if you know a Republican with a yellow ribbon magnet on their car, give them a talking-to. Their hollow and pathetic display of so-called "patriotism" on the ass end of their car is a lie.

More delusion from Ann Coulter
Following up on Jen's post, here's a video of Coulter on Hannity & Colmes last night in which she contributes NOTHING except shifty-eyed rhetoric and debating tactics akin to a Jerry Springer guest.
Video at Crooks & Liars.
Make no mistake, she's a spectacle not unlike a car crash or a parent spanking their child in public. It's terrible, but you can't look away. One other thing... Herion shiek is great on emo kids and goths, but a self-righteous Republican hack? Sad and weird.

Osama-Zarqawi story leaked to Fox News
Yessir. Fox News got this story first -- within hours of the bloodiest day in Iraq so far. The Bush Distraction Squad is back in business.
Officials: Bin Laden Urges Zarqawi to Hit U.S.
WASHINGTON — Recent communications between Usama bin Laden and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi indicate that bin Laden has "encouraged Zarqawi and his group to focus on attacks inside the United States," multiple U.S. officials told FOX News on Monday.
"U.S. officials" = "Karl Rove".

George Bush lying to the Russians
George W. Bush in Thursday's press conference with Pooty-Poot:
I live in a transparent country. I live in a country where decisions made by government are wide open and people are able to call people to -- me to account, which many out here do on a regular basis. Our laws and the reasons why we have laws on the books are perfectly explained to people. Every decision we have made is within the Constitution of the United States. We have a constitution that we uphold. And if there's a question as to whether or not a law meets that constitution, we have an independent court system through which that law is reviewed. So I'm perfectly comfortable in telling you our country is one that safeguards human rights and human dignity, and we resolve our disputes in a peaceful way.
How many lies are in the paragraph? Count 'em. But you'll need a calculator.
