VIDEO: State of the Empire 2005

Several hours after the televised State of the Union, George W. Bush and Congress reconvened in secret for Bush's annual "State of the Empire" address. Reality Based Nation has attained exclusive video of that speech.

I love how they have the democrats sitting for all this, as though they are not willing participants.

Very Funny/Scary. Some day we'll al look back on this and laugh. If they don't alter the history books...

Which "they" has the Democrats "sitting for all this." They did sit through much of it -- didn't you see it? But why do you imply that Bob is implying that the Democrats aren't "willing participants." Participants in what? Government? Law-making? Listening to the President?

Of course they're willing participants. They just weren't willing to stand and clap for certain things.

Crikey, Lactar, what did facts ever do to you?

Posted by: Plummer at February 4, 2005 07:15 PM

In the video - Bush says something evil, Republicans clap, democrats sit.

Bush never actually said those things, nobody ever clapped for them, ect. So this is a totaly fictional edit meant so show the authors beliefs as to the nature of things. Hence, Bush evil, republicans all about it, democrats not.

"Hence, Bush evil, republicans all about it, democrats not."

Just like the real speech. Bush said evil things, the GOP clapped, the Dems booed.

The dems have bent over for him for a long time. You'd think in the true spirit of it, every man and woman in that chamber would be clapping.

I mean, why exagerate the speech and not the applause.

I guess I just dont see how liberals are so pissed at republicans. I mean, arn't they SUPPOSED to be evil? Shouldnt you be more pissed at your own people who are supposed to oppose them and dont? If I were an American socialist, I'd be twice as furious with the dems as the others.

You discuss and strategize with your own ideological peers. You fight, battle, and debate with the people who mean to steal the country away from you.

Lactardo, there are plenty of posts on this site alone that excoriate the Dems for, among other things, a lack of spine. To suggest that progressives never criticize the Democratic Party is ludicrous. To say that Reality Based Nation doesn't go after the DNC is flat out wrong.

Here are a couple of links (the first one is titled "What's wrong with the Democrats?"):

http://www.realitybasednation.com/blog-archives/2005/02/whats_wrong_wit.html

http://www.realitybasednation.com/blog-archives/2005/02/remember_these.html

And those are just from today alone.

Why, oh why, do you hate facts so?

Posted by: Plummer at February 5, 2005 01:47 AM

Did I say never? I don't think so. But repeat it until it become true. That'll help a bit.

And yes, I've seen Bob post about your sellouts, thats fine and good, but most of it seems to be directed at the repubs.

You people have almost half of congress kinda sorta maybe on your side. Wouldnt it be easier and more productive to reign them in, than to to just attack repbulicans who wont change, dont care what you think, and are currently winning with help from folks that you people voted for.

I mean, I hate to say it, but this site will never convert anybody right of Boxer, but I'd wager that it would make people who already like your line of thought crack down on their congresscritters who take their vote for granted.

Stephen,

You didn't say "never," so I won't repeat it. You ask "Shouldnt you be more pissed at your own people..." and my point was simply that there are plenty of posts on this site that excoriate the Dems. On the 4th alone, there were two out of seven. I personally have written many posts that point out the spinelessness of the Dems, among other faults.

But the substance of your comment makes no sense to me. To suggest that one should be "twice as pissed" at people who are wrong part of the time is to imply that we should be "half as pissed" at people who are wrong most of the time. As usual, you are at odds with logic.

Our goal is not "conversion" to any ideological viewpoint. Our goal is the sharing and studying of information, much of which isn't on the front page of or top story in the commercial media.

From Bob's first post on the site: "The REALITY BASED NATION is an assembly of progressive thinkers, activists, commentators, comedians and writers who 'believe that solutions [to world and national problems] emerge from [our] judicious study of discernible reality.'”
