Bloody Canada, bloody humans

The "seal cull" is underway in eastern Canada (full story). Human beings have insanely bad karma and it's only getting worse.
Oh... And scientists are saying we've depleted two-thirds of the world's resources, making us a threat to 10 million other species as well as ourselves. Full story at the Guardian.
Is it just me or are we -- the human race -- not unlike a reality-television-and-fructose-addicted form of cancer on this planet?

I think you need to do some more research into the seal hunt. There are more seals there than have ever ben counted, (5 million) and they are devestating the local fish stocks.
This is not an endangered species. This is a species that's endangering other species.

"This is a species that's endangering other species."
I assume you mean "people" and not the seals.
We have a lot of balls playing the role of population controller, given our own over-population is destroying EVERYTHING good and natural about our planet. 10 million other species for starters.
It's the same bullshit argument for deer hunting; for the pigeon shoots; and all the rest. If a particular species naturally flourishes, who the hell are we to decide when it's time to thin the herd?

I agree, there are terible attacks against the environment happening across the world, but the seal hunt is not one of them. The seal population is growing. The food they eat, cod and other fish that humans also eat, is shrinking. (And this is with the Cod fishery closed for several years.)
By attacking the seal hunt to divert attention from actual endagered species whose numbers are shrinking.

Unfortunately I don't know enough about the particular argument supporting the seal cull, but I was surprised to learn that cullers can turn the skins around for profit. I was glad to see the US bans their import, but I wonder if supporters of the culls would change their mind if cullers were only paid labor rates for the act and were forbidden to sell the skins? Sometimes when profit goes away, the underpants theft follows.
Usually deer hunters eat the meat and mount what is left. Is culling for sport any more right than culling for profit? I guess people will always disagree on that, however if prey is eaten by the preyer then the act is following nature. Sure, a gun or a bow in a human's hands isn't fair to the deer, but neither are a leapard's claws, teeth and speed fair to gazelles.

AS a species, we can be quite sickening.
Good idea on taking away profit, gensster. Money is the driving force in many of our worst crimes.
All that blood...
