Man of the people

Did you know that Bush's Crawford estate is 1,600 acres?

On Saturday, Bush rode bikes with Lance Armstrong (story here). For 17 miles. They never left the grounds of Bush's property.

Hannity finally sides with Cindy Sheehan

"Explain to the mothers and fathers of American servicemen that may come home in body bags why their son or daughter have to give up their life." Sean Hannity

Of course, that was from 1999 when President Clinton committed troops to Bosnia. More brilliant GOP quotes here.

Pentagon to pre-screen Freedom Marchers

So there's this "America Supports You Freedom March" being organized by the Pentagon for 9/11 this year. And they're screening the marchers to be sure they're friendlies.

... the Defense Department will screen participants before the walk and hopes the event will serve as a model across the country. "The goal for 2006 is for each state to hold a freedom walk," she said.

More here.

More drugs for Mr. Limbaugh, please.

August 15, 2005:

LIMBAUGH: I mean, Cindy Sheehan is just Bill Burkett. Her story is nothing more than forged documents. There's nothing about it that's real, including the mainstream media's glomming onto it. It's not real. It's nothing more than an attempt. It's the latest effort made by the coordinated left.

Media Matters.

Never give up

The mainstream media is failing in its accepted mission to blot out the hope in these 50 states. Heroes are standing up for reason and truth. Cindy Sheehan is only the most public face and voice representing the millions who are speaking up and taking action against this band of thieves who have stolen our laws, our land, and the lives of so many. These criminals wish, more than anything, to steal our hope and our will to fight. But they are failing, as all cowards ultimately fail.

Despite the fact that this greedy elite runs the government and the mainstream media, reason is on the rise in the United States. Don't lose hope.

"Yet is there an immortal courage and prophecy in every sane soul that cannot, that must not, under any circumstances, capitulate. Vive, the attack -- the perennial assault!" - Walt Whitman

"It is important to keep fighting, to keep persevering. This is indeed the spirit of Buddhism. Let's advance with this spirit." - Daisaku Ikeda

Of course... it's Clinton's fault!!

binladen.jpgAnother chapter in the right wing's never-ending quest to blame everything on President Clinton.

According to the New York Times, Judicial Watch has turned up a top secret memo from 1996 in which the State Department said bin Laden would be a bigger threat in Afghanistan than he was in Sudan.

Two things about this bother me...

One; does anyone remember how hard the Republicans were going after Clinton back in 1996? Now imagine if the President had ordered American troops or the CIA to enter another sovereign nation and go after an individual who at that time had not attacked the US. An individual who had not even called upon others to attack the US. An individual who several years before had been our ally against another enemy. What do you think the Republicans would have made of this? What do you think they would have made of this in an election year? Sad as it is, folks, politics do play a part in important decisions like this, for every President. If President Clinton had gone after Bin Laden in 1996, the Republicans would have had a field day going after the President...and, to some extent, rightfully so. Back then bin Laden wasn't even the threat he was in 1998, let alone 2001.

Before the East Africa bombings in 1998, however, Mr. bin Laden "wasn't recognized then as the threat he is now," Mr. Ereli said. "Yes, he was a bad guy, he was a threat, but he was one of many, and by no means of the prominence that he later came to be."

Which brings me to my second point; our intelligence agencies field scores of threat assessments just like this one every day. It is a Herculean task to sift through them and decide which ones are "actionable" and which ones aren't...and sometimes we make mistakes. And sometimes people die because of those mistakes. But the only other choice is to live in a country that attacks everyone who sneezes wrong in our direction. That's not the America our fathers and grandfathers fought and died for...and it's not the America we want.

Republicans hate the troops

Why do the Bush righties hate the troops?

From truthout in Crawford, Texas comes a report of a guy driving his pickup truck over the row of crosses that stand for American troops killed in Iraq.

Some time around 10:00 p.m. on Monday night, Larry Northern of Waco, Texas, drove his pickup truck down to the Crawford protest site. He got out, went around back to the tailgate, and attached a pipe and a chain to the rear of the truck. He got back in and proceeded to drive his truck through the Arlington West cemetery, grinding and smashing through the grave markers. Five hundred of them were knocked down, and 100 of them were totally destroyed.

Vile, right? But there is a "happy" ending to it.

Mr. Northern was arrested and charged with criminal mischief. Ironically, he was apprehended because one of the crosses he destroyed punctured the tire on his truck. Some have argued in the aftermath of the attack that he should be charged with a hate crime. However that shakes out, it was hate that motivated him. His hate was so strong that it motivated him to destroy crosses and stars and crescents bearing the names of soldiers he almost certainly has said he "stands for."

And the good news continues:

A man who owns property near Bush's "ranch," and right across the street from his church, has offered the protesters an acre of his land for their campsite.

See, despite what the mainstream media would have us believe, the majority of Americans don't approve of the President or the job he's doing, especially in regard to Iraq.

We've been hijacked by a tiny, greedy minority of elitists who commands a larger, but still minority group of undereducated, anti-reason, anti-science willfully ignorant hoopleheads.

But the majority of Americans are with Cindy Sheehan and against "President" Bush.

Stop thief! Bush steals more than just logs.

300-bush-lifts-logs-crawfor.jpg

The most excellent Mark Crispin Miller has a new book coming out called FOOLED AGAIN: How the Right Stole the 2004 Election & Why They'll Steal the Next One, Too (Unless We Stop Them).

It's an admittedly long title, but, then, there are a lot of despicable things to say about this criminal issue which literally affects all Americans. But as Miller pointed out last night on the Majority Report, it's important to look at the facts.

So he spent over a year taking a close look at those facts, and he concludes without equivocation that the 2004 election was stolen, and that it was a coordinated effort by the Bush right. And the mainstream media all but ignored it. And continue to ignore it, even in the wake of Rep. John Conyers' Congressional Report on Ohio (just Ohio!) that is filled with smoking guns.

If you can't wait until the book comes out to read about how we're being ruled by an unelected thief who starts illegal wars based on lies and has, de facto, killed thousands of Americans and over a hundred thousand other human beings (and, really, who CAN'T wait to read about that?!), pick up the latest Harpers for a condensed version, or go to www.harpers.com for an excerpt.

You'll read delightful fun facts like this:

On Election Day, twenty-six state exit polls incorrectly predicted wins for Kerry, a statistical failure so colossal and unprecedented that the odds against its happening, according to a report last May by the National Election Data Archive Project, were 16.5 million to 1.

Ah, yes, the old 16.5 million to 1 shot!

Adventures at the Huffington Post

For some reason, the editors of the Huffington Post invited me to write blog entries for their site. It's been a week since I began contributing stuff and the response has thankfully been positive, but what I'm enjoying the most are the occasional e-mails and comments from the hoopleheads and wingnuts.

The Huffington Post has a partnership with Yahoo News in which select "HuffPo" articles are distributed to viewers of all political persuasions on the Yahoo site. The best wingnut comments happen there. To wit:

In response to "War Bolsters Iraqi Chemical Weapon Industry" (Yahoo News here, Huffington Post here):

THIS NITWIT LIB admits WMDs excist!
What a GREAT Pro-Bush story this is. The auther says "blah,blah,blah......IRAQ has CHEMICAL WEAPONS manufacturing going on....blah,blah "

Nevermind that the article I referenced repeatedly discussed that the weapons appeared AFTER the invasion. More:

Re: THIS NITWIT LIB admits WMDs excist
He probably a GAY LIB ; much like that author of this queer Lib propaganda story.

In response to "Olbermann Out of Control -- With Sincerity" (Yahoo News here, Huffington Post here), I give you the moral values voter... who wishes cancer on someone:

Olbermann needs to go back to ESPN and keep his moronic opinions to himself. Denying food and water to a person who is not dying IS comparable to Axis war crimes. Why didn't Olbermann's family "just let him go to be at peace" when they found that tumor in his flapping jibs? Would have been a lot better for all of us if they had.

Here's my favorite comment of the week in response to "Chickenhawks Have An Army, Too" (Yahoo News here, Huffington Post here):

HEY BOOB, WHAT A CROCK OF SHIT, YOU GOT THE LIBERAL DICK UP YOUR ASS TOO, PROBABY MICHAEL MOORE'S, HOW BIG IS IT, IS IT REACHING YOUR BRAIN YET, WATCH OUT, IT MIGHT BECOME A HILLARY(TUMOR)! AND YAHOO PAYS YOU TO WRITE THIS BULLSHIT! OR DO YOU JUST WRITE IT SO PEOPLE LIKE ME CAN BASH YOU DAY IN AND DAY OUT! THIS IS PATHETIC, YAHOO NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THESE WRITERS AND STOP BEING SO FUCKING LEFT-WING UP IN HERE! PATHETIC PATHETIC, YOU WRITE THESE ARTICLES B/C PEOPLE LIKE ME GAVE YOU THE PRIVELAGE! YOU CONFUSE FREEDOM OF SPEECH TO FREEDOM TO BASH! GET THE LIBERAL DICK OUT OF YOUR ASS AND WRITE SOMETHING EQUAL!

Three things. 1) I'm not paid, 2) I haven't been called "Boob" since 2nd grade, and 3) I don't have a liberal dick in my ass.

Someone said to me that these blogs preach to the choir. Doesn't sound like it. More to come...
