Confusion
I guess this is what happens when Bush thinks he can run the show from his redneck estate.
BUSH RADIO ADDRESS: "Despite the acts of violence by the enemies of freedom, Iraq's elected leaders are now finishing work on a democratic constitution."
ADMINISTRATION OFFICIAL (to the Washington Post today): "We set out to establish a democracy, but we're slowly realizing we will have some form of Islamic republic."
BUSH RADIO ADDRESS: "And when that mission of defeating the terrorists in Iraq is complete, our troops will come home... The terrorists cannot defeat us on the battlefield."
WASHINGTON POST: "Administration officials have all but given up any hope of militarily defeating the insurgents with U.S. forces."
Bush's address here.

Wow, way to go out on a limb with that statement, George. So basically, there's no guestimate when this mess will end, how much it will cost, or what the hell we're doing there anyways.
Terrorists? Battlefield? Huh? Terrorists by definition don't do traditional combat. Is he calling the insurgents terrorists? That's pretty broad by any standard. They can't beat us? Then what's the battleplan, when basically we have guys moving around the countryside waiting to get blown up? Are we playing a numbers game? Do we just continue sending our youngsters over there and hope the number of rebels is fixed? They must not have heard that we declared victory already. Wars over, people. Nothing to 'splode here.
To think, only three-fourths of Americans think GWB has royally f'd up Iraq.
