Constitutional ban on 'reviler marriage', too?

In response to John's Idiot Nation and my Bigotry In The Name of Jesus H. Christ, one of the most oft quoted New Testament passages which we've received has been:

1 Corithians 6:9-10: "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." (King James Bible)

By this measure, should there be a constitutional amendment banning "reviler marriage", too? In other words, anyone who uses abusive language should be stripped of their marriage rights and their basic freedoms as Americans? There's a lot of effeminate heterosexual people out there as well. Should they be stripped of their rights, too?

Anyone who answers 'yes' to those rhetorical questions, I have one thing to say to you: maybe our form of democracy isn't for you. The Bible condemns a lot of things. But should those condemnations be the guide by which we legislate in this country -- in the land of the free? No way.

I am an idiot and I know it. I am not proud of it, so I work on it. You have dilliusioned yourself into thinking you are not. You are cut from the same cloth as Bush, Cheney, Clinton, James Carville and the list goes on and on. You are not someone who "gets" offended and then goes off. No Sir, you are waiting for a oppertunity to go off. You are an agenda waiting for an opening. The "angel" lesbian parents that you came to the defense of were not "baiting" the trap, RIGHT. And luckily for you most people will never go there out of fear of being labeled "homophobic" or out of pure naiveness. Yes, I am a Christian, but not perfect as you are "non Christian" perfect. It does not take a Phd to figure out that you were damaged by a Christian. What is not known is whether your contempt is justified. Seldom do any of us have that much right to that much contempt, think about it. Evil exists in all segments of society, those abscribing to a particular faith are not exempt. Hopefully it is less prevelent though. I can't fixed my multitude of malfunctions, so I defianitely can't presume to be able to fix yours. You however can do something about your state of denial. We all could use a little electroshock therapy from time to time, your need seems more urgent then most.
I hope your bitterness subsides enough for your brain to stop malfunctioning for a while. Being in your current state is not living, it's called combustion.

I hate to scare you but there is the other group you really want to prevent from getting married, them thar fornicators...

Most americans forget that fornication is still as much a violation of the UCMJ ( Uniform Code of Military Justice) and that is a statute that does not discriminate against sexual preference. So hopefully as we replace civilian law with martial law we will be able to go after all of those evil doers who fornicate for violation of Military Law, which I guess has to be the Law of God as well.

Mad Props on the growing danger of lesbian parents. Hopefully now more americans will do their part to find a cure for Heteroseuxality in our life time so that we can also protect ourselves from fornicators and them folks who would do anything other than Patriotically Correctly Procreate to maintain the military forces.

Preston, not sure if you're addressing me or Cesca. Regardless, neither of us were damaged by Christians or Anti-Christians. But once again, you completely MISS THE POINT. The point is that I LIKE Jesus Christ. I actually think quite highly of him. I mean, he was non-violent, advocated for the poor and the infirm, and spent the majority of his adult life helping people to realize their own inherent power as individuals. What's not to like, frankly? He reminds me of Ghandi and Dr. King.

My point is that these homophobes who call themselves Christians are really taking Christ's name in vain, because Christ preached a consistent message of utmost tolerance. Period. It's quite common practice in both religious and secular groups for the followers of a charismatic leader to stray from his or her basic teachings as they establish a more stable organization. The history of the Christian church is a textbook case. That being said, of course there are millions of Christians who do truly practice the way of Christ. Dr. King was one of them. Mr. Bush is not.

The cited verse from 1st Corinthians is interesting, because it also lists "drunkards" and "extortioners." The fact is, somewhere else in the New Testament (maybe Romans?) it says "ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." None of us is innocent--which is why Jesus said that the person who was without sin could follow the Old Testament law and be the first to cast a stone at the promiscuous woman. In that example, the crowd put down their rocks and left. You won't see the right-wingers doing that. They are like the scribes and Pharisees, so convinced of their own righteousness that they DO NOT HEAR Jesus' admonitions about examining themselves before condemning others. Jesus called them white-washed tombs--well-enough looking on the outside, but filled with decay and bones.

I still want to know how they get "conservative christian" from worshiping the body and teachings of an ultra-liberal jew.

Vicki,

Your quite right, 'all have sinned' and we do need the forgiveness of God. That forgiveness is given when we accept Christ and become His follower. In the example you've given about the woman caught in adultery Jesus indeed defended her from the Pharisees attempt to stone her. And when they left Jesus asked her 'Did no one condemn you' and 'She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said, "I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more."

Now imagine if the woman were to respond with "Lord, I do not believe that in this case my adultery is sin. I don't see how a loving individual as you are reputed to be could object to obvious 'acts of love' I have been doing. This relationship is not just about sex, why his own wife does not love him as much as I do! And my own husband has ignored me for years."

And therein lies the problem. We can't redefine sin to be non-sin. Following Christ means agreeing with his teachings and repenting from sin should you fall. And Christians can't change the standard for themselves or for others, no matter what kind of loving, committed relationship they are in. Unless it is sanctioned by God we can't sanction it either.
