A Veterans Day letter to the President
From the diaries at dKos:
Dear George.I am a Vietnam-era graduate of the US Naval Academy. I served in the Navy for nine years, three of them working with airborne Marines and the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg. And I am so fucking angry I could scream.
Your piss-poor speech today - of all days - proves that you don't know jack shit about the military and the needs of men and women in uniform. You took a sacred occasion and turned it into a political soapbox to cover your chickenhawk ass. Fucking coward.
It's no wonder though. While serious people with real commitments were out fighting for this country honorably, you were a fucking liar and a deserter. You drank and snorted your way through a cushy-ass TANG assignment with your blue-blood daddy lying to cover your crimes. While the rest of us matured and grew into responsible adults, you fucking slid along like always, spending other people's money and passing the buck. You never learned the truth about leadership. It's all a fucking game to you.
Now you're spending other people's lives. That's right, fuckhead. OTHER PEOPLE'S LIVES. Do you understand what an embarrassment you are to real veterans? Do you understand what a blight your administration is to honest, hard-working military professionals all over the fucking world? Do you understand anything besides how to shuck and jive and blame somebody else for your stupidity and incompetence? You make me sick.[Sentence redacted for fear of Secret Service retribution.] I know more than a few senior officers in the Navy and Marines . . . and they all think you're a fucking disaster. Many can't wait to get out from under your criminal command. Many more would just as soon frag you as look at you.
If you were an honorable man, you'd resign from office and apologize to the world for your lies and incompetence. But we know you are not an honorable man.
That's why we're going to take back Congress. And then we are going to impeach your lying ass. That's right, asshole, you are going down.

Is Bush accepting cash in exchange for meetings?
The NY Times via Huff Po today:
The lobbyist Jack Abramoff asked for $9 million in 2003 from the president of a West African nation to arrange a meeting with President Bush and directed his fees to a Maryland company now under federal scrutiny, according to newly disclosed documents. The African leader, President Omar Bongo of Gabon, met with President Bush in the Oval Office on May 26, 2004, 10 months after Mr. Abramoff made the offer. There has been no evidence in the public record that Mr. Abramoff had any role in organizing the meeting or that he received any money or had a signed contract with Gabon.
This is very bizarre. More to come...

The Ummm-doy! President
At one point, da Silva even exhibited a map of his country, which is larger than the continental United States. "Wow! Brazil is big," Amorim quoted the U.S. president as responding.
Yep, Mr. President, Brazil is big. The sky is blue. Babies come from Mommy's tummy. And you're a disgrace to our country.

Bush: "We Do Not Torture." (wink, wink)
Bush in Panama City today:
"There's an enemy that lurks and plots and plans and wants to hurt America again," Bush said. "So you bet we will aggressively pursue them but we will do so under the law."He declared, "We do not torture."
For such a black & white, good & evil, right & wrong president, he sure takes a nuanced position on this. As I've written since the torture allegations broke, they DO endorse and mandate torture. But their definition happens to be different from the agreed-upon definition the rest of the world understands. Water-boarding? Bushco says: not torture. Dropping acid on the skin? Bushco says: torture. The problem is, both are torture.
And the United States? Our home? The nation and Constitution we love and fight to defend? Tarnished and stained by a pack of criminals whose crimes infinitely outweigh a break-in or lying about a blow job.
These men are committing crimes against humanity day-in and day-out. Not to mention the fact that their techniques are putting us all in grave danger.

They Hate Us for Our Chemical Weapons
Italian television is going to broadcast a report tonight which alleges that we used "white phosphorus" during the major assault on Fallujah. The report claims that the substance was dropped "indescriminately" on civilians and, in many cases, burned them alive. If true, this would be a major violation of international law. FYI: Phosphorus was the weapon of choice in the bombing of Dresden in WWII. More people were killed in Dresden than Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined.
"Paper Tigress" at dKos has the report.
GRAPHIC photos of possible victims here. WARNING: these are probably the most gruesome of any photos I've seen of Iraq War casualties.
