Jimmy Carter is a great human being... I wish I could say something similar about our current leadership.
While Carter was inept in several ways, he's an intelligent, compassionate man. But that's not what the American public wants in a president. They don't want someone to tell them that (back in the '70s) becoming less dependant on Middle East oil would be "the moral equivalent of war" as Carter did... American's wan life cheap and easy... The Republicans have figured this out and pander to that need incessantly.
At least some are waking up to this folly.
