Oh Come On, Governor!
My governor, Ed Rendell:
"You've got conservative whites here, and I think there are some whites who are probably not ready to vote for an African-American candidate."
...and therefore black people are unelectable, is what he's suggesting.
All due respect to the governor, but this is pure horseshit. These "conservative whites" won't be voting for a Democrat in the first place. Jesus, governor. What a dumb thing so suggest. And that goes for Mr. Estrich, who wrote a similar thing.
Racist conservative whites? Oh please. Yeah, they're really lining up for liberals these days.

You've got a point that many, not all, of these con whites won't vote Dem anyway. Some would and I suspect Rendell knows something about that.
This is a concern a lot of people have. My view is yours above and we can't give into that or then the racists win.
But I'd STILL like to know what was racist about Bill Clinton's "fairy tale" comment. I've heard this alleged with high resentment, but not often seen it explained WHY it's racist.
have at it, gang.

While shovelling yet more snow, it occurred to me that a lot of Obama backers (Obamites?) don't take seriously the concerns many have that he can win the primary and lose the general.
Example: Falsely using racism, as done on the "fairy tale" incident, can work in a Dem primary. Dems are more aware of, and give a shit about, racism, than Republicans (who have openly used racism to win elections for decades). We're more easily silenced that way.
But that doesn't have truck with the con's and will be used to create backlash among all those poor oppressed white males by the propagandists. (I'd put a pitcher on it!)
More generally, I think Obama is on a bubble that a mean SOB Republican apparatchik could burst.
Anyway, scorn us if you will, but we've got some real concerns Barack may not be up to it. Rendell voiced one.

Just got back from voting in the Western MD primary. It was thrilling, husband and I voted straight Obama and Obama delegates. Don't count him out for the general election just yet. Gov. Rendell, your are entitled to your opinion...I just don't share it. YES WE CAN.

Uhm, call me kooky, but I'm not going to vote for a candidate based on whether or not it's thought that a candidate can or cannot defend themselves against Republican attacks. The attacks are going to come fast and furious because the Republican Party in it's current hideous incarnation does not campaign on issues.
It wont matter who the Democratic nominee is, the attacks will come. They will be baseless, they will be vicious, they will be sexist/racist. It is going to be very ugly because we are battling an ideology that is very close to losing it's grip on power and will do almost anything to prevent that.
I will not, let me repeat that, WILL NOT, allow my vote to be influenced by who I think the REPUBLICAN PARTY will be able to successfully attack. Those bottom dwellers are going to do their business no matter what. You may be afraid of what they will bring, but I am not.
Barack Obama has held his own against a popular First Lady (within the party, at least) and an extremely popular former President that, if he wasn't term limited, would probably still BE President. These two didn't just show up in Washington last week. They are veterans of the campaign trail. The national election will not be easy, but Barack Obama is certainly no slouch and is well aware of what's coming.
The Republicans don't get to decide who I vote for. Period.

"After reading his remarks in their context and watching his appearance this afternoon on MSNBC, I'd have to say that whatever trouble Hillary backer and Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell got himself into yesterday--over his reported comments that some whites in his state will not be willing to vote for a black candidate for President--was a result of his bumptious personality, and not a deliberate effort to cast doubt on Obama's electability or to otherwise inject race into the campaign:"
