The Case For Senator Clinton

Joe Wilson wrote a really sharp endorsement of Senator Clinton here, with plenty of negatives against Senator Obama. If you're a supporter of Senator Clinton, it's a syllabus of fuel against Senator Obama. But, at a glance, the following points seemed odd:

Hillary knew this from experience, having spent the better part of the past 20 years fighting the Republican attack machine. She is a fighter.

She's fighter against Republicans, which is why she voted with the Republicans to fight in Iraq.

I was among the most prominent anti-war voices at the time -- and never heard about or from then Illinois State Senator Obama.

Joe Wilson has been a hero in this dark age, but with all due respect this line is weak and literally near-sighted. The media made damn sure that anti-war voices at that time were marginalized and ignored. It's no goddamn wonder, Ambassador. And for what it's worth, this reminds me of e-mails I receive from wingnuts who dismiss what I write based on my education and filmmaking career. "Feh. Who are you anyway? Go back to Kootztown College."

If you aren't fed up with the whole thing, go read it and come back to parse it in comments.

Joe, again, shows his undying love for the Clinton's (or the post he's been promised), no matter how much he discredits himself in the process. I think he shows how weak their case is, AGAIN, and how much they admire, but just can't quite pull off Rove's slimeball tactics. Hopefully, that's due to the fact that they're democrats, and just don't have it in them, that's a good thing. If this piece helps Obama in the way that his first "ripping" did in December, all I can say is, "Thanks Joe!" And good luck with that post in the Obama administration. Sad, sad, sad, Mr. Wilson.

The whole article sounds like a rush to defend Hillary Clinton in her hour(s) of defeat, not a coherent argument about why she's a better choice for President.
It wasn't a "Here's where I disagree with Barack Obama on issues of national security, foreign policy and our 'war on terror' " but rather "hey she was nice to me and my wife and I've never heard of this other guy so obviously you should vote for Hillary Clinton."
Also, this whole "she's a fighter" argument is wearing out it's welcome. The more it comes up, the more it's obvious they have nothing else to campaign on. So she's withstood the withering and irrational right wing-nut attacks all these years. She's also carefully kept to the middle of the road so as not to draw too many attacks from the right. I'm sorry, but I can't remember any instance where she was "a fighter" or "a leader" in the Senate. She's never stood out and that's been the plan all along because she knew she'd be running for President eventually and couldn't have a heavy record of "liberal" votes as ammunition for Rove's Apostles. Ted Kennedy has withstood DECADES of right wing attack. You think he gives a shit what they think of him? Nope, and there is no question about where he falls in the political spectrum.
That's one of my big issues with HRC. The goal is not election to higher office to help Americans, but instead to be elected President. Once there, they'll spend the next four years working to get elected again. Anything her administration does that helps me will only be a happy circumstance, and certainly calculated to draw my support while also making sure it doesn't draw too much fire from righties. Bland-o-rific!
Wilson's assertion that "everyone really and for truly believed that W only wanted to get inspectors into Iraq and golly, we had no idea he was going to invade because Colin Powell is an awesome guy" is pretty thin as well. There was no reason to even be rattling sabers in Iraq's direction in the first place. The fundamental question should not have been "is this authorization going to be used to invade or just to get inspectors in" but instead "Hey, just why the fuck are you so interested in Iraq all of a sudden? Wasn't it Saudi Ara-- oops, I mean Afghanistan that attacked us?" They drank the Bush/Cheney Kool-Aid from the very beginning, not just on the authorization, but on the idea that it was even necessary. Even I knew then that the reasons being given for "authorization" were changing by the week in an effort to get Congress behind it, and oh yeah, I NEVER SAW ANY OF THE INTELLIGENCE. It wasn't hard for me so it should have been super-easy for her.
None of the TR quote applies to her. None of it. Where the hell has she 'dared greatly?'

Again, he opens his article with presumption that all other considerations must be put aside and we must support the candidate that is better positioned to beat John McCain in a dirty campaign. Honestly, it's a ridiculous argument and if that's all you've got it's time to strike the tent.

If Hillar is so big on fighting the Republicans, then why has she voted for everything Bush has ever wanted? And If I recall correctly, Obama gave a speech the day of the vote for Iraq in which he condemned it. Is that not anti-war enough?
