Wingnut of the Week
Congressman Jack Kingston (R-GA) on last night's Real Time with Bill Maher:
REP. KINGSTON: Through Axelrod and their campaign spokesmen, they've let this thing grown -- grow. And when you combine that with the fact that [Senator Obama] would not say the pledge of allegiance and won't put an American lapel pin on his coat. That's things voters are watching and it's because this Democrat primary--BILL MAHER: Wait a second, he won't say the pledge of allegiance?
REP. KINGSTON: Well the famous picture of him standing while Bill Richardson and Hillary Clinton had their hand over their hearts saluting the flag during the pledge and Obama has his hands deliberately down -- that is disturbing to Americans.
It's always awesome when a slack-jawed Republican both lies and uses the epithetical "Demcrat primary" in the same run. The "famous" photograph the congressman is talking about was taken during the National Anthem. Not the pledge. There's no rule or etiquette that dictates a hand over the heart for the anthem. And finally... Congressman Kingston wasn't wearing a goddamn lapel pin on the show last night either.

DAMMIT! Years of secret training and indoctrination and Obama blows it all by NOT PUTTING HIS HAND OVER HIS HEART DURING THE INFIDEL PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE!! Thanks, thanks a lot Barack. You can pick up your last check on your way out.
As for you, Kingston, you've interfered with our plans for the last time...

I'm watching the youTubes version and Kingston is doing his best to perpetuate the typical Obama myths about wanting to bomb Pakistan, meet immediately with The Bad Guys, not having any legislative accomplishments in the Senate, questions about his patriotism and the patriotism of his wife, on and on. It's the typical Republican attack and redirection. "Yeah, we may all be indicted this week and illegally tap your phones and send American men and women off to die while giggling about it BUT HIS WIFE IS NOT PROUD OF AMERICA! My outrage is surpassed only by my outrage at the Democrats helping the terrorists kill us all!"

Bob, in connection with this subject, a good morning awesome would be John Prine's "Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore"

Isn't Kingston the idiot who was on The Colbert Report bragging about how he has the Ten Commandments printed on the back of his business cards & when Colbert asked him to name them, he couldn't??
What I couldn't understand was why Bill Maher allowed the shit Kingston was spewing to go, basically, unchallenged. 'Course, it was difficult for him to get a word in edgewise...

Bob,
I watched this jackass on TV last night and I could hardly take it. I was wondering why Maher and Taibbi were letting him get away with murder, so to speak. Kingston was just spewing out any false bits of information he could in one hour. I wish I was on that episode so I could take his hillbilly ass to task for the nonsense he was saying. (Maybe hillbilly is to harsh, but I don't care). No offense to southerners but this is the reason why people think your less intelligent, STOP ELECTING MORONS TO REPRESENT YOU TO THE COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AHHHHH, Kingston you are on notice!

I'm from coastal Georgia, covered in part by Kingston's district. If by Hillbilly you mean "Southern Idiot" maybe I shouldn't take too much offense. As long as we can use "Tancredo" to mean "Western Idiot."
But I'm with you KidDynamo. As I was watching the youTubes version this morning, I was waiting patiently for Taibbi to tear him up. It never came. Nor did Bill Maher call him on any of his bullshit. The only time he came close was towards the end when Kingston threw out "Hussein." Maybe he's being nice because Kingston appears to be an amiable fellow that at least shows up to showcase the Five Neuron Thinking of the Republican Party.

Nano,
You may definitely refer to Tancredo as a Western idiot. That guy is part of what is exactly wrong with the Republican party. I have always been very liberal, but I can at least understand, while disagreeing with others points of view. However these Republicans are beyond the pale. Tancredo is just as much of an ass as Brownback, Thompson (old pappy bear), Duncan Hunter or any other yahoos from that side of the isle you can think of. In the words of David Cross the comedian..."Not all Republicans are racist redneck homophobes, just the people they elect to office."

Christ, putting your hand over your heart during the pledge is a RULE???
And if you don't you're an Islamofascist?
What the hell.

Well, I was corrected about this on on my blog. Apparently, there is a law: Title 36, Subtitle I, Part A, Chapter 3 § 301 ...

Well, if I may be allowed to pick a nit, it does say "should" instead of "shall" or "must". A small distinction, but when it comes to rules and laws, an important one, nevertheless.

I remember from middle school that a teacher of mine, a Jehovah's Witness, did not put her hand over her heart during the pledge of allegiance or recite it. Appealing to the Wiki Oracle just now, I found a Supreme Court decision that said the state did not have the power to compel speech in that manner.
