A Prostitution Ring! Awesome!

Thanks, Governor Spitzer. You just added your name to a short list that includes the congressman who was hiding cash in his minibar. So now, everytime we talk about the Culture of Corruption, the GOP can get all, "But... but... wah-abah Spizter and the hookers! Gotcha!"

In case you're not aware, Governor Spitzer has been caught up in a prostitution ring. Whenever I hear that phrase, I inexplicably add "tone" to the end of it. As in "prostitution ring-tone." When Governor Spitzer's cellphone rings, it goes, "Hey baby, wanna spend some mon-ayyy!"

This is pretty awful and bad:

Mr. Spitzer, a first-term Democrat who pledged to bring ethics reform and end the often seamy ways of Albany, is married with three children.

Supposedly he was found out from a federal wiretap. Do we know if it was a targetted tap on him or if it was one of those "we're hunting for terrorists so we're tapping everyone" taps?

MSNBC is talking about whether Spitzer will resign. Hmmm....I'm not recalling David Vitters or Larry Craig resigning... But, yeah the "we only fuck our wives - and our country" party is going to have a field day with this. On the plus side at least it's March and not October.

What... how come I'm never around when these sign-up sheets get posted? A prostitution ring sounds exciting.

$4500 for 3 hours??? Is this the going rate or is she really, really good?

Posted by: ceu [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 10, 2008 03:50 PM

Apparently, the phone taps were used to catch the people running the ring, not the johns. None of the customers have been charged (as yet), only the four people who were in charge of the deal.

Of course, this does mean that Eliot Spitzer owes Martha Stewart an apology. :o)

And, oh yes, the rates were from 1000/hour to 5500/hour.

This is definitely going to get a lot of play over the next few days, but if he is smart he will resign. If he leaves office quickly and quietly without a fight, it will fade from the news cycle by the end of next week, or perhaps get eclipsed by another even bigger name being found on the list. If he sticks around, oh hell...

That reminds me; whatever happened to the whole DC Madam scandal? I guess I kind of expected something out of that.

Well, according to Tucker Carlson, Spitzer is the devil incarnate, committing "sins" and crimes since he entered public life and, it seems, the guy needs to be taken out and stoned to death.
How come none of these people were this outraged about the fact that this country was lied into a war? Spitzer (allegedly) violates the Mann act and is skewered; Bush shreds the Constitution and Congress shrugs. I don't get it - how come sex always trumps all?

My sister in Ireland just emailed me:

That's sort of disappointing. For the last several hours I've been reading headlines saying Gov. Spitzer of NY has been linked to a prostitution ring.
I thought at the very least they'd finally tell me he was the mastermind of it.
Instead he's just customer # 9.

If he can afford $4500-an-hour hookers, the Governor of NY is getting paid WAY too much.

Posted by: Packy Jude [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 10, 2008 06:13 PM

Man, what can you do with these $4500-an-hour hookers than you can't do with a $50 hooker?

Posted by: Alaska [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 10, 2008 06:23 PM

Now, now; he didn't pay $4500/hour for the hooker - it was $4300 and she was there for almost 3 hours. Is that better?

Posted by: bajasteve [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 10, 2008 07:24 PM

Oh, that's a lot different. What a cheap hooker.

Posted by: Alaska [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 10, 2008 07:48 PM

If the company and its whores cost that much it means they're hot, super-specific-freaky, proven to be discrete, and "good", but still, if they weren't all such hypocrites they could go to any liberal city's red lightish district for the same shit (or use the phone book in the Bay Area) for a lot less, though the women might not be as hot (or young). But if you're paying that much to cum, you have much bigger problems than just being a public hypocrite.

Does this really shock anyone? The only reason this is of any interest to me will be if the ringleader(s) open their mouths to see who else goes down. Otherwise, it's just politics as usual as far as I'm concerned. Who knows how much shit they're holding on all of the hypocrites that run DC after the patriot act was enacted, and the constitution was systematically dismantled. The next 8 months could be a roller coaster from that shit alone. Weeeeee!!!!!

The indictment came down on Thursday & we don't hear about it until Monday (I mean, no one figured out until today that Spitzer was involved...) Looks like someone didn't want this story to get buried in the weekend...
I agree, Inbno, it's politics.

That didn't come out right...what I meant was that politics has a big part in it. There's also a certain amount of Wall Street bigshots doing the "clap, clap, point, point" thing.
