An Open STFU To MSNBC

Dear MSNBC,

I have watched for the last 45 minutes a group of wealthy white people on Morning Joe rip into the Obama campaign with regards to Reverend Wright's statements -- successfully and ridiculously extending this story into its third week (even though it barely deserved a third day).

ENOUGH! Wrap some duct tape around Pat Buchanan's high pitch mouth and delete the Reverend Wright lower-thirds from your production library.

Four years ago, your network tried to out-FOX the FOX News Channel on the Swift Boat Veterans issue. In that period of time, Pat Buchanan was on your network around the clock. Just like now. Only now, Buchanan is in his true comfort zone as a known race-baiter. This is inexcusable, especially considering that Buchanan has been recently quoted as implying that slavery was ultimately a positive thing.

Everyone else has moved on, MSNBC. Moved on to Senator McCain's lack of knowledge on Iran; moved on to the huge financial crisis the Bush administration has created by its non-regulation and tax cuts for the super rich; moved on to 4,000 Americans killed in Iraq (which your network didn't mention in the entire 8AM hour this morning); and so many other things.

I urge you to listen to Senator Obama's "Philadelphia Address" (you can use that) again. When he talked about distractions -- distractions that occur again and again and again -- he was talking to you and your fellow cable news networks, MSNBC. If you can't talk about anything other than these surrogate fights -- these distractions -- instead of the issues that are important to your viewers, you are running against the current of history.

Future historians will look at Senator Obama's Philadelphia Address and ask, What was he talking about in terms of distractions? And who perpetuated them? Do you really want to be named as the answer to those questions?

Thank you for reminding me to email Morning Joe to tell them I am done watching them go on and on about the same stuff. Guess I'll stick to NPR to get my news.

Well, your letter topped mine. I wrote about Pat. I wrote another one about Joe's idee fixee--bashing the absent and former pastor, defending Hillary's honor. What is up with that? The show has become the same question over and over"How could he have sat in those pews..."

Pat and Joe don't know what to do with Obama. They take him personally. He won't fulfill their stereotypes, he can't make them feel superior, so they dredge up a bunch of cracker imagery and fear mongering and try to pin on him every racist fear, every racist distortion they have ever had. Obama has tapped a deep vein with Joe and Pat. Pat is raving interracial rape stats(skewed + only corroborated by Aryanbrotherhood.com), pining for the days pre-civil rights, and trying to connect Obama with 60's rioters in Watts.

Why does MSM not pull the plug? But ya know--when they do, they'll outfox us. They took Imus away and gave us Joe. Imus was raw and juvenile. He was to be appalled at, not take too seriously, a spectral looking guy, mouthy and openly tasteless. Joe comes across as Leave it To Beaver's dad. He's Mr. reasonable, passing his politics off as old fashioned apple pie with some maverick for spice, while a scratch below that surface and he's a troubled man resenting the world for not conforming to his rigid, inner movie.

Also, and he must have some inkling of this, Actually, he's got the mental range of an extra small rubber band. Every morning now he pretends to champion Hillary while he lords it over Mika. The set has become her Doll's House.

Mika brings culture and grace and intellectual curiosity to the table. She brings a familiarity with world affairs learned at her father's knee. Like Obama, Mika is a threat.

Joe is Stanley Kowalski with a bachelor's degree. The frightening thing is not that he's a conservative, but that he's atavistic.
