What Matters
While Chris Matthews and Joe Scarborough talk about choosing a president based on orange juice and bowling scores, shit like this happens (via Atrios):
BAGHDAD (AFP) — A suicide car bomb and roadside bombings against have killed five US troops, including three marines, the American military announced on Tuesday. Two marines were killed and three others wounded when a bomber slammed his explosives-laden car into a checkpoint near the western Iraqi city of Ramadi at around 7:30 am (0430 GMT), the military said.
Two Iraqi policemen and 24 civilians were also wounded in the attack near the city, the capital of Anbar province, which was once the symbol of Sunni Arab insurgency against US forces.
Joe Scarborough keeps talking about that goddamn Lee Greenwood song and how patriotism should be measured by how much we cry when we hear it -- how Senator Obama needs to somehow embrace that song. Really? This is the traditional media narrative?

Scarborough has a huge head.
Unfortunately, it's no indication of brain size. I despise the msm. I mean why on earth haven't they put Buchanan out to pasture yet?
The only value I can see in keeping some of these racist, myopic assholes around is that the rest of us watching can fantasize about fun ways to beat the ever loving piss out of them if given half the chance.

I hate that song. It brings out the bullshit in Americans. David Cross said it best when he mentioned how every time that song is played a stadium or rally, when it gets to the "I’d proudly stand up next to them, and defend her still today", all the people stand up and sing the lyrics. None of those people would ACTUALLY stand up and defend America, but they'll pretend to while they sit on their ass drinking Budweiser and watch noisy cars go around in circles.
Many Americans have a terrible habit of putting on a "Uber-patriot/Go MILITARY GO!/SEMPER FI, MOTHER FUCKER!" facade, and it's complete hypocrisy.
Nobody likes war. Nobody wants to see people die, especially in vain. But for many many years the war drums have been beaten to the point in which we've become deaf and hypnotized, and now we somehow feel that if we don't shout "TEAM AMERICA , FUCK YEAH!", then we're not patriots.
In my view, a patriot is a person that's loyal to the betterment of their country; a person who dreams up solutions, rather than adding to the problem. And I wish with my heart and soul that my children will one day live that dream for me.
