I Got Hit By A Car

Posted By Bob Cesca

Note to drivers. If you see a cyclist riding on the road in front of you, don't make a right turn in front of the cyclist, thereby cutting him off and forcing him to slam into the side of your car.

No serious injuries, but I got to ride in an awesome ambulance and they gave me some lovely drugs at the hospital. And -- bonus! -- I got to parade around the ER wearing my garish cycling clothes.

Yeah, glad to hear that you're ok Bob.

If you got hurt really bad I don't even know where I'd go for my morning awesome. =(

You had me scared for a minute there, and yes, it could've been a lot worse! TG you're fine.
(Hey! I'd like to see your garish cycling gear -- mine's pretty tame, haha.)

Get a good night's sleep, Bob. :)

Bob,
I'm glad you weren't seriously hurt.
I ride, too, and so far, I've been lucky enough to avoid colliding with the boneheads in cages. Sometimes it almost seems as if they're out to get you.
Take care, heal quickly... I hope your bike isn't too screwed up either, so you can ride again soon.

A lorry did that to me once. I ended up holding onto the side of the lorry. If I hadn't done this I would have gone under the wheels.

"...and they gave me some lovely drugs at the hospital"

I have to engage in one-upsmanship here...I'm on a 24/7 morphine patch, with oxycontin "as needed" Rush would be SO envious. :o)

Damn Bob - glad to hear you made it out with little damage. That is one of the hottest debates in the cycling world. A lot of cities are putting in bike lanes, which keep the cyclist on the right - even if they are going straight and a car to the left is turning right. We have a few around here, and I made it a practice to merge into traffic before intersections with a road to the right. It's against the law, but I would rather get a ticket than get killed (my old roommate, who's a cop and avid cyclist, also does the same thing).

Garish cycling clothes and the driver still didn't see you? Sheeesh! Bet you've got some garish bruises to go with the clothes now. Glad you weren't badly hurt.

Bob--
New to your awesome site--my sister pointed it out because on saturday, a driver tried to end MY cycling career. I don't know what you were riding, but I ride this (http://www.easyracers.com/08-ez_1_sc.htm) and if I'd been on a normal bike, I'd be taking my meals through a straw right now.

get better soon.
