Stretch

David Gregory, who, in fairness, was one of the few White House reporters who routinely challenged McClellan, just said on Hardball:

"I mean this notion that we were somehow easy on [McClellan] or on the run-up to the war, I mean it just doesn't jibe with the things he was saying at the time. [...] I don't think that's a credible charge."

Seriously? The goddamn press was catatonic until Katrina. September, 2005.

UPDATE: Continued with video from Oliver:

SERIOUSLY? Evidently Stretch is STILL catatonic.

Helen Thomas was the only reporter earning her fucking check the last eight years.

Not to worry, I'm sure they'll all take their jobs seriously when PResident Obama assumes office...

I heard David Gregory say today that he was defensive on the subject of the media being too soft on the White House during the run up to the war.

He forgets that there were millions of us here and around the world who understood that we were being lied to and spun. That there were many critics and skeptics who were not given air time to put forth the opposition point of view.

Does he not remember that pathetic, scripted press conference on the eve of war when the toughest question Bush got was about his faith?

The media was cowed and neutered to whimpering impotence. If they didn't cheerlead the way to war, they at the least turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to the voices of reason and peace.
