Down The Tubes
Senator Ted Stevens has been indicted.
The seven counts of making false statements were dumped on him like a big truck.

Oh, it's too good, I can't stand it :) This is what did in John Rowland - ex-Gov (R) of CT. A year and a day in federal prison... I know, the investigation is still underway & I am a firm believer in innocent until proven guilty, but really. Ha!

It's going to be an interesting next four weeks (until the primary election) here in Alaska.

While I'd really like to slam this Republican politician for his crimes in office, the truth is that power corrupts. Despite any misplaced nostalgia, I suspect it's been a VERY LONG time since our representatives have put the people first, and their careers second.
Our form of government with its checks and balances works great if these fundamentals are applied. Not so good, when they are "mugged" and missing.
The United States has become a "safe haven" for international corporations and considers its citizens to be nothing more than consumers. You only get to this point when politicians (Democrat and Republican) feel their only duty is to the lobbyists who fund their campaigns.
A perfect example of "career first" and "people second" is "OFF THE TABLE." As long as we allow any politician to put his/her interest over our own we will never achieve the kind of liberty and prosperity that a "true" Democracy can bring.
It doesn't make sense to brain-bounce from issue to issue without ever addressing the fundamental root causes. Almost every problem we have with our government is due to the influence of lobbyists and the need to continually raise campaign cash throughout one's term(s) in office.
We're a heartbeat away from Facism simply because we've allowed lobbyist's to rule the game. Republican ideology has tried to convince us that choice and competition is ALWAYS better than appropriately managed systems.

He might get a completely different understanding of the meaning of the word "tube" if he goes to prison. Poor, muddled, greedy, corrupt, insane old man...
