Supporting the Troops

Digby mentions:

I'm hearing gasbag rumblings that Obama believes "his judgment is better than The Man Called Petraeus'." (How dare he demean the service of the troops this way.) The Republicans are obviously fighting back.

The far-right is going to have to get used to the fact that General Petraeus, no matter how infallible, would have to take orders from a President Obama. And in terms of judgment, let's go back to the handy-dandy Cuban missile crisis scenario. The Joint Chiefs wanted to bomb the crap out of Cuba, and then invade. If the Chiefs had been indulged in 1962 and their judgment deemed "better," well then -- BOOM!

What he said was that he wouldn't rubber stamp what Petraeus wanted - that he'd weigh that against what other advisors said as well as the needs of the US and the countries involved. Unreal how they twist statements like that around! And they seem to have conveniently forgotten that Bush wasn't listening to the generals at all until he got one that said what he wanted!

Speaking of the Cuban Missile Crisis - just now on Countdown, Olbermann reported that we might have a second bite of that apple. Putin is threatening to send armed fighters to Cuba in response to BushCo desire to put the "Missile Defense Shield" in place in the Czech Republic. Nice, huh?
