Facebook Against Evan Bayh
If you haven't already, go here and join the Facebook group against Senator Bayh for VP.
I've reached the conclusion that General Clark would be Senator Obama's best choice. He simply fits all of the qualifications. Works on the national security front. Works for Clinton supporters. Works for the netroots. Works for a 2016 presidential run. Works geographically (he's from Oklahoma).
Does anyone top him?

Chuck Hagle is clearly the best choice. Talk about reaching across the aisle. Impressive, anti Iraq war, moderate Republican. Went to Europe with Barack. Clark is a bit too soft.

Hagel is a HORRIBLE choice. The only thing he agrees with the Dems on is the war. Check out his voting record at ontheissues.org.
Aside from that, why would Obama choose a Republican? Why would you want him to, Hielo? Aren't there enough qualified Democrats??
Yup, Bob. Clark. Definitely fits all the requirements and isn't a Senator. Moreover, he was a Clinton supporter who threw his support firmly to Obama when asked. And he's so easy on the eyes. :)

ceu: You give too much credit to the voters. How many would actually check out Hagle's voting record as you suggest? 2%? 5%? An Obama / Hagle win would get the House and Senate where we need them. That is where the "issue" war will be fought.
Obama has to be president. I would take my chances that Hagle as VP would not ever get there. He would, however, guarantee an Obama win. Think swing votes. Think Vietnam vet.
No, there are no Democrats that can guarantee a win as the VP nominee. Quit thinking about labels and think about the big picture here.

And you don't give Obama enough credit. He doesn't need Hagel to be elected and he doesn't agree with Hagel on the issues. If he did, he'd be a Republican.
The big picture is to advance a more liberal agenda - no overturning of Roe v. Wade, health insurance for the 47 million of us without it, better working conditions, better schools & access to higher education, increased access to alternative energy sources & energy independence, protection of rights for women & gays, progressive taxation, etc. Hagel's record on each of those issues is abysmal. He's rated: Rated 0% by NARAL, indicating a pro-life voting record; Rated 0% by the HRC, indicating an anti-gay-rights stance; Rated 11% by the NAACP, indicating an anti-affirmative-action stance; Rated 36% by the NEA, indicating a mixed record on public education; Rated 0% by the LCV, indicating anti-environment votes; Rated 100% by the Christian Coalition; Rated A by the NRA, indicating a pro-gun rights voting record; Rated 12% by APHA, indicating a anti-public health voting record; Rated 0% by SANE, indicating a pro-military voting record; Rated 8% by the AFL-CIO, indicating an anti-union voting record; Rated 0% by the AU, indicating opposition to church-state separation; Rated 0% by the CTJ, indicating opposition to progressive taxation.

There's more, but I think my point has been made. Hagel is NOT a man we want next in line for the presidency. NO. If Obama were fool enough to pick him, he will lose the election because a whole lot of his supporters won't be voting for him.

And another thing re: Think Vietnam vet. Clark is a wounded Vietnam Vet, so he fits your criteria on that front.

Webb would have been my first choice--he has a way of diffusing the BBQ media's nonsense. Clark is the best choice currentlyfor all the points Bob mentions. I am nervous about Biden and Bayh--seem too CW-ish to me, and Bayh seems to much much like the "Republican Lite" choice that the Dems are tricked into--and it NEVER works.

The slam dunk choice would be Powell--if Powell had the courage to accept it--which he does not. It would give him a chance to redeem himself after the UN speech. If Powell had followed his convictions and resigned, it would have had an impact.
I really do hope it is Clark--he really does shore up everything that Obama needs.

guarantees a victory in November. I need this guarantee.
Maybe the problem here is that we vote in such different places. I live in the West. 90% of my associates are aghast when I tell them I am voting for Obama. Most just think he is too liberal or just vote their pocketbook (i.e, Taxes). A few still use the "N word". I am not kidding.
You need a nationwide prospective on this matter.

So a VP should be selected not based on his record but based on trying to make bigots, who aren't going to vote for Obama anyway, happy? That's complete illogical, nonsensical bullshit. If Obama picks Hagel he will lose me and millions like me and THAT is a way to guarantee a loss.

Ooops ceu!! You are getting downright naughty. Do you really represent "millions". Are you really a Republican? If not, maybe someliberals just don't get what it takes to win. Yeah. That's it.

I saw the outrage when Obama voted for FISA bill in July. Many, many people were yelling that he was a turncoat to the liberal cause, that he'd let them down, and threatened not to support him in November. Imagine that magnified and you'll see what would happen if Hagel was the VP pick, which is why it won't happen.
As to whether I'm a Republican.... I think the answer to that is obvious. C'mon, Hielo, why'd you have to make it personal?

ceu: Sorry if you thought I was getting personal just because I was.. I just sensed a flameout on your behalf. I thought I would just have some fun.
O.K. Enough. I will vote for Obama no matter who is the VP. I still care quite a bit about this country.
Love ya ceu.
