The Dutch Harbor Vote
Senator Obama leads in the latest poll out of Alaska...
McCain (R) 40
Obama (D) 45
Markos reminds us that President Bush won Alaska by 25 points. Also note at this link that North Carolina is still too close to call. If you were to have told me three years ago that we'd be writing posts like this, I wouldn't have believed you.

FiveThirtyEight.com has a note about this poll:
"The poll getting the most buzz today is in Alaska, where Hays Research Group shows Barack Obama ahead by 5. For the time being, however, I am not including this poll in our averages. Although the poll was published on the Hays website in full view of the public, the fine print says that it was paid for by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, which qualifies as a Political Action Committee (as well as a union that endorsed Obama). I have e-mailed the pollster to clarify the origins of this poll and may include it based on their responses to those questions -- however, for now, I am considering it an internal poll and leaving it out."

North Carolina is gonna be a tough one. As a resident, I can tell you outside of Research Triangle Park and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area, it's almost all red country. You'll find some of the staunchest Republicans in the rural areas, and let me tell you, they're STILL going with the Obama as Muslim smear. However, RTP and Charlotte are strong voting blocks, and with the influx of northerners into RTP in recent years, I think we'll see Obama squeak NC out. It will be close though.

For the first time in my adult life, I'm proud to be an Alaskan!

But seriously, this is pretty cool.
