This Is Why Democrats Lose

When we lose, we lose because of glad-handing and complimenting the opposition. Senator Feingold on McBush:

"He's a very good legislator from my point of view, because when he gets onto something, he doesn't just want to introduce a bill, he likes to move it. And he's fearless."

And Bob Kerrey:

"John McCain is a known quantity," says Bob Kerrey, who thinks Obama will ultimately prevail. "You don't look at John and say, 'Who the heck is he?' He's a veteran, he's a guy who got pretty banged up in Vietnam. He can deal with crisis. There's some uncertainty about Senator Obama."

As you might recall, Bob Kerrey also repeated and spread the false madrassa rumor during the primaries:

KERREY: I’ve watched the blogs try to say that you can’t trust him because he spent a little bit of time in a secular madrassa. I feel quite the opposite — I think it’s a tremendous strength. Whether he’s in the United States Senate or whether he’s in the White House, I think it’s a tremendous asset for him.

Stop it, stop it, stop it! This is amateurish and weak. Unless, of course, there's a movement to undermine Senator Obama's chances for some reason.

Comments

It's particularly galling that these type of comments come from Democrats. WTF?

I'll repeat comments I made elsewhere - there could be a white backlash and certain people could be going out of their way to see to it that Obama loses. Here's what I said on another site: As an African American - I'm starting to get all sorts of pushback on the subject of a black president. The depth of hostility toward me has increased noticeably - and quite often it's from people who are saying outright that Obama is going to ruin the country. Why be hostile to me about it if it isn't about the one thing Obama and I are known to share (race)?

***************

Regarding Kerrey's hackneyed madrassa statement - I find it unfortunate that he repeats that lie (although calling it a secular madrassa suggests that he was trying to get it right), I can't find it in myself to disagree with him. At a time when the big source of conflict the world over is fundamentalist Islam - wouldn't it be to our advantage to have someone on OUR side who has at least some claim on the muslim community? All the strengths that Obama brings, people keep trying to take away.
