Awesome Thread

Open thread for all of your threading and thread-like remnarks remarks.

Edit: Yeah, I don't know what a "remnark" is either.

I'm repeating myself, but this really irritated me today. Have you guys heard that the republicans are claiming to be passing out American flags "discarded" or thrown away at Obama's speech? Democrats are saying their story is false. I believe the Democrats because, as we all know, Republicans always lie about everything, constantly.

Either way, nice way to evoke that gut instinct anger and avoid any issues.

What a bunch of douchebags.

Party of (hopefully) losers courts fellow loser:

Seriously, things like this make me wonder if Connecticut isn't much worse than it seems (every time I drive through it, which is the only way anyone ever winds up there).

"remnark"? Is that a new sniglet? Combination of remark and snark? :)

That wouldn't surprise me at all, Amaraya. It is just the kind of nasty they trade in. It's clear at this point that they have no problem lying about anything. Not just the fringe supports groups, but the McCain/Bush-Palin campaign as well.

Amaraya -
But Democratic convention organizers claimed the flags were not going to be discarded — but instead were snatched from the site of Obama’s historic address to carry out a “cheap political stunt.”...
Damon Jones, spokesman for the Democratic National Convention Committee, released a statement saying McCain should applaud the fact that thousands of American flags were “proudly waved” at their convention.
“But instead his supporters wrongfully took leftover bundles of our flags from the stadium to play out a cheap political stunt calling into question our patriotism,” he said.

Yes, it's Fox News but no, I didn't find it myself. It's from a link at Paddy's.

Sarah Palin addressing the Alaska Independence Party:

I'm hoping tomorrow will be a good day with O and Biden and (gasp) McCain on the Sunday talk shows.

Noticeably absent...Palin. Where is she?

And I hope that is the question that will be asked. If she was fully vetted by McCain, what's the harm in allowing her to appear on one of the shows? With McCain even.

She has the experience, the foreign affairs knowledge, and she can speak well.

She's being held out from the press so they can martyr her self-inflicted treatment. This is the way of the right wing Christians who picked her.

What up, what up, bloggin' muthafuckas! Discarded flags?! How dare those dirty hippies. What are they going to do next - desecrate them by autographing them?

Just like those dirty bastards in the Clinton White House tearing up the offices, vandalizing walls and stealing the 'W's from all the keyboards.

I'm still hungover from thursday night Bob.....

Tonight I'm mopping up water that is coming THROUGH the window frames of my brand newly built apartment..... I'm talking cascades here folks. I've already dumped a midsize garbage pail full off water and it's still running down the walls.
Thank god they already sent a letter telling me my rent is going up next month.
And the power just went off..... again...... SHIT now I hear another leak at the OTHER end of my loft.

Yikes! Hope everyone else is doing better than gallery. Chin up, dude. I've been there.

Geez, Travis - way to judge a whole state by the actions of Lieberman. Some of us actually live here and it's not a bad place. We have a Republican governor (female) who has started a state-wide health insurance program for people not covered elsewhere, has followed thru on a commitment to fund early childhood education and provide more funding to the schools, has worked very closely with the Democratic Attorney General and Democratic legislature, AND ended the fiscal year with a budget surplus. All in all, we're doing a whole lot better than under the last Republican governor, who was hauled off to federal prison after having been convicted on charges similar to those Ted Stevens is facing.

Teh intertubes are back up....
Thanks BC, I'm in fucking jersey for christsake.... not exactly a coastal town either.
This is just a testament to cheap, shitty, construction with sky high rental prices.

I feel for ya, Gallery. It's raining extremely hard here (streets are flooded) but at least the house isn't leaking. :(

Posted by: ceu [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 6, 2008 09:46 PM

Hi ceu, a leak I could take, this was like something from a vegas hotel.....INDOORS.

Hi guys..im in RI..and we're starting to get hit with Hanna...good times....

Geez, Travis - way to judge a whole state by the actions of Lieberman. Some of us actually live here and it's not a bad place.

I understand ceu, but he lost the primary, switched over to be an Independent and was elected by the Republicans in CT. A lot of us were pissed off at Lieberman and in hindsight, rightly so.

Posted by: Broadway Carl [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 6, 2008 10:12 PM

Gallery - make sure the landlord gets drying fans in there ASAP. You might want to stress to them that the carpets will get moldy, destroying them & the padding & warping the floors & that mold might make the apt. uninhabitable. Concentrating on their loss, rather than yours, might get them in there more quickly.
cminri - good luck to ya. I keep thinking how lucky we are that we're not getting all the high winds that the Southerners had to deal with.

Now...back to happier things, like trashing the GOP :)

Posted by: ceu [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 6, 2008 10:15 PM

True, Carl. I'm one of those whose face he spit into. However, the blame for his re-election doesn't rest solely with the Republicans here. Lieberman had a liberal record going back many, many years in CT (he was a very good AG, was in the legislature, etc). People who weren't paying close attention to him after 2000 didn't realize how much he had changed and voted for him based on his past. Trust me, very, very few people here would vote for him again - he is toast in this state. One Quinnipiac poll I saw a few months ago showed that his support here is below 37%. My feeling is that the views of the majority of people in CT are represented by Chris Dodd rather than Joe Lieberman.

Posted by: ceu [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 6, 2008 10:24 PM

@ ceu - Gotcha. The Democrats got it right and the rest of the state got it wrong. But there's no way he wins without the Republican vote and it seems they were paying attention. If we knew then what we know now...

@ amaraya - I don't know how much of that Palin article is true, but even if it's only partly accurate, that's a very scary proposition.

That's it for me tonight. Hope everyone stays safe and dry.

Hey all!

Just dropping by to say hi on my way to sleep. Hanna had me awake at 3 a.m. this morning - we got the wind but not that much rain. Sorry you're having such problems Gallery - I had some major leaks in my place a couple years ago with Ophelia. Ceu is right about the fans...moldy carpets are awful.

Hopefully I will be awake in time for the morning news shows tomorrow. I agree with Space Cowboy - I hope someone asks McCain (or a surrogate) where Mooselini is. Oh, wait....that's right! She's trying to figure out the difference between Sunni and Shia. Maybe she'll share the knowledge with John Sidney.

Posted by: KatinWilm [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 6, 2008 10:43 PM

Man in this day and age a female Republican governor is not a thing to boast about.

Posted by: Travis Disaster [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 6, 2008 11:05 PM

MOOSELINI !!!!! That is just...... BRILLIANT Katin !
I didn't think it could get any better than "caribou barbie" but I was obviously wrong.
Time to call it a night. Thanks for the advice and concern.
Thankfully the flood zone was by my studio where there's no carpet. My paintings are a little sticky but they should probably dry just fine.
Shit, they might actually be improved by the drip effect.

I think a "remnark" is a remark, with added snark. Didn't look like a typo to me.

Posted by: BrunoMachiavelli [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 7, 2008 06:49 AM

Gallery - I can't take credit for that stroke of genius - Jane introduced us to "Mooselini" the other night on an open thread. I thought it was pretty awesome too.

I agree with Bruno about "remnark." I think it describes most of my comments perfectly.
