Bait
That's Senator McCain pawing Levi Johnson. My first reaction was: "What the hell are they thinking!?"
Then it occurred to me... this is bait. The McCain campaign is baiting the corporate media to continue to cover this. And at this point, as long as McCain is being antagonistic towards the press, the press will hit back harder and harder. I can't imagine this turning out well for the Republicans -- Senator McCain will need to make a crapload of barbecue to slow this trainwreck.

Jesus, he really is making love to that kids arm with his withered old claw, isn't he? That made me throw up in my mouth a little.
Senator McCain should stick to checking out Levi's future-mother-in-law's ass, much less creepy.

What the hell were his parents thinking, letting him go there to be displayed and exploited in this way? (he's 17, right? So the parents still have a say?)
Time for the press to stop playing this game - step away from the teenagers and do some serious reporting on policies and issues. This election is too important for it to be sidetracked any longer by Gramps and Gidget.

He's merely congratulating the young(!) couple on their success with the "abstinence only" sex education program, and their religious commitment to practicing no birth control.

Catch it!

I haven't been watching the BBQ media much today, but MSNBC seems to be pushing back on the "blame the media meme." After all, it was the M/P campaign that broke the story on Bristol. The MSM would not have touched it otherwise. They are in classic Rove-Bush distract mode. I ahte to say it but there is no way this would not be a huge story in our media--how can they not see this. Also, I love that the "moral judgment" party wants this to be a private matter. I agree and diasgree in that this issue higlight key issues that Palin has been a staunch suporter of. I do think that the McCain camp has worked the refs enough so that the speech will be well received in the MSM.

I think the barbeque is over, Bob. They've decided on the "fuck you" attitude that so fits McCain like a glove. 'You eat my food, drink my beer and then you dare to have any journalistic integrity?'
"McCain's top aide, Steve Schmidt, yesterday lashed out at what he deemed "offensive" and "demeaning" coverage and questions from reporters after McCain's running mate, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, confirmed her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant.
"It used to be that a lot of those smears and the crap on the Internet stayed out of the newsrooms of serious journalists," Schmidt said at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota.
...More recently, though, McCain, 72, has accused news organizations such as the New York Times, Time magazine and the NBC television network of being unfair to him. The campaign even considered pulling out of one of the three presidential debates because it would be moderated by Tom Brokaw, a former NBC News anchorman."
Yeah, like Brokaw is sooooo liberal judgin by his handling of Meet The Press since Russert died. 'Et tu, McCainstram Media?'

1. Levi is 18.
2. McCain's arms are not fully functional because of his war injuries.
Look, I'm all for attacking the McSame/Failin' ticket to expose the hypocrisy of the Party That Wrecked America, but let's do so in appropriate ways.

Hey now, I think all Old People Hands look like claws, that wasn't a dig at his immobile arms. As long as there's nothing vital to national security kept in the White House that's on a high shelf or above his head, I'm cool with his arms.

@jbrons:
I'm more concerned that McSame's mind isn't fully functional because of his war injuries, and the fact that he wants a religious zealot whack job who thinks the War On Terror™ is a Mission From God™ a Heartbeat Away™ From the Presidency on Day One™.
If that doesn't bother you, it should.

He's 18? What's his problem? He should have a whole trailer full of kids by now. Maybe McCain is consoling him:
"Don't worry, son. If she gets short and fat after the babies, you can just leave her for another dame, cuter and richer."

I'm in agreement that they renditioned the kid to St. Paul so that the press couldn't get to him in AK.
Am I the only one that's getting a creepy Mr. Burns vibe from this whole thing?

Is this the kid who proudly called himself a "fucking Redneck"? Yeah, I can see him at a Rose Garden party, munching dainty tea sandwiches and making polite small talk: "I just shot the biggest fucking moose EVER! That fucker was so fucking big I couldn't tie it down on top of my fucking truck, so I had to fucking cut it up on the spot with my fucking cahin saw, I swear to God! Sheee-IT!" Yeah, he'll blend.
