Country First -- Or Something
McCain is on his way to Mississippi for tonight's debate. Jonathan Chait:
And now, after insisting it would be unpatriotic to campaign and debate before bailout legislation had been completed, is debating anyway, even though a deal is further away than it was when he suspended his campaign.
So what can we deduce from McCain's blinking here? By McCain's own definition, he's being unpatriotic and putting politics before country.
You know what McCain is? A spaz.

It seems to me this was another ploy from Camp McCain. If Obama had fallen for it, it would seem McCain was playing leader and Obama follower. It would have had the bonus of rescheduling the debates and cancelling the VP debate to use that date for the first POTUS debate.
When they saw Obama wasn't biting, they realized that it would be political suicide for them to blow off the debate. I'm sure they weren't counting on the reports that McCain's presence was what put a wrench in the works in the first place, asking for fewer regulations and tax breaks for corporations.
What a maroon. What a tah-rah-rah-boom-de-yay!

Stephanie Miller played a hilarious mash-up of McCain & the Mighty Mouse theme song this morning. I wish I could find it. It was made by ShaneO in Pittsburgh.

I imagine that discussion went something like... They'll never see it coming! They can't say no or we'll call them unpatriotic like, y'know always. Perfect!
If anyone on that campaign actually bothered to think as far ahead as "what happens if they don't fall for it?" I'd be very surprised.

much as I love your blog, please don't use 'spaz' as an insult. :-(
