Hang On Tight

The bailout bill is failing. I'm seeing the Dow at -500, but that's on Google where there's a lag. I'm hearing reports of -700.

UPDATE: "Motion to suspend rules and pass" vote happening now. 332 yeas. Dow at -578.64.

UPDATE THE SECOND: -517. Republicans saying that they're pissed at Pelosi's "partisan" speech. Other than the above motion to suspend the rules, CNN is saying the bill itself has been rejected.

UPDATE THE THIRD: By way of clarification, apparently the Dow dropped to -700 then recovered. Hence my confusion above.

UPDATE THE FOURTH: I think we're done in the House. They're dealing with other bills now. Note to all Democrats -- start blaming Bush and the Republicans NOW.

-530. CNN says Boehner is disappointed. Says he didn't think the lawmakers knew the market was tanking during the vote. I think the post-analysis of this mess -- whenever it happens -- will show that the polling was misinterpretted. No-one likes the idea of a bailout. Yes. But is it necessary? That's a question that wasn't asked by the pollsters, I think.

2:32PM
-553. House Republicans saying they're disappointed. Eric Cantor blaming Speaker Pelosi's speech.

2:38PM
Cantor blaming partisanship, then proceeds to deliver a crapload of partisan rhetoric about the Democratic Congress. Obama on CNN... "Era of greed and irresponsibility on Wall Street and in Washington..."

2:47PM
-521. When does McCain appear in Washington -- pretending to do very serious things on his cellphone?

-582. Knowing that it had dropped down to -700 earlier, I wouldn't be surprised if the Dow closed at around the same level. Meanwhile, I'm glad I'm not near a TV. How insane is CNBC right now? Anyone watching the hyper-spaz white guy network?
