Liveblogging Prime Time
After the overwhelming success of the liveblogging threads this week, I thought I'd post a nightly open thread for commenting on the prime time cable news shows -- or whatever the hell you'd like to talk about. Go!

You mind reader! We're all going through liveblog withdrawal, at least until we fall asleep face first into our dinners.

I thought I'd see more articles in the media today about McCain's AWFUL convention speech!! It was pitiful!! He talked briefly about the things he'd do as president but he never said a word about HOW he'd get them done. And people are supposedly "energized" to vote for him??? Why?? Because he has a gun-toting, pit bull, hockey mom governor as his VP??? Wow!

Something that may be of interest to some Goddamn Awesome readers is the AARP interviews of Obama and McCain tomorrow:
Saturday, September 6
Watch Senator Barack Obama at 8:30 a.m. ET
www.aarp.org/obamawebcast
Watch Senator John McCain at 12:30 p.m. ET
www.aarp.org/mccainwebcast
I'm no great lover of AARP, but it will be the first true Q & A since Brokeback, er, uh, I mean the Saddleback bull session.
I'd at least expect to hear something about actual proposals regarding health care and Social Security.
It should at least be less vomit inducing than watching the RNC.

I'm stuck on another continent, so am relying on you guys to keep me posted on the insanity of the MSM coverage...
Question - Is anyone quoting McCain's record-breaking viewing figures pointing out that a significant number of viewers were Democrats sitting at home yelling at their TVs with their head in one hand, and a bottle of tequila in the other? That's got to account for a good 56% of total viewers.
Posted by: recruitgal
at September 5, 2008 7:53 PM
Surely you jest recruitgal. Yeah "people" are pointing it out but not the "leftist, liberal" media. They just repeat shit.

It's my considered opinion that the whole Troopergate thing is a silent storm waiting to unleash itself on the McCain campaign. The timing on it is SO bad for them and there's little chance that Palin is going to escape without looking really shitty.
recruitgal: feel free to stop by my blog. The closer we get to the election the more obsessed I become about keeping "up to the minute" and about blogging every GD thing that happens! LOL

Oh hey, everyone! This is a nice surprise.
Some notes - I really, really hope the Enquirer gets Palin having an affair because that would be simply delicious.
Also, I'm loving the plethora of industrious YouTubers and the Sarah Palin parodies.
Nice that the RNC is finally over. I learned that Palin is debating Biden on my birthday. It's like a birthday present from G-d.

Electa- Don't ya think if they had been seriously vetting Sarah she would have kept her big mouth shut about her brother-in-law? I think she woulda known better and sat on her hands for a while. I think it reinforces the idea that NOONE was really thinking about her until after Obama selected Joe and had such a great convention.

I know finally some ADVOCATES for the TRUTH--Rachel and Keith. Our media has become a right-wing echo chamber where the truth is blurred and distorted so that most Americans are kept in the dark. I love how McCain's campaign manager said this was "not about issues." The BBQ media enables this notion.

I just finished watching the Obama/O'Reilly interview Part 1 and I have to say that I'm really appalled at the amount of disrespect BillO showed. This is the Democratic nominee for the presidency and he's being so fucking smug and arrogant.
That dirty motherfucker sits there, smirking and interrupting Obama at every turn. I defy anyone to find video of O'Reilly daring to be that disrespectful or even challenging any Republican. Not just Bush or Cheney, although BillO probaby creamed in his pants if he has had them on (I don't know, I can't stand to watch this fuckwad) but even McCain, Giuliani, Rummy, Rove, Boehner... ANYONE with an "R" after their name. Goddamnit, he pisses me off! Yet another asshole that I hope to have the opportunity to bump into on the street so I can punch him in the throat.

I still can't believe the media is not up in arms that Sarah Palin has not answered one question. Do they not care about this country?

Watching last night's Daily Show repeat...Huckster was on. That guy's drunk way too much kool-aid. When Stewart asked him about all the speakers in the GOP calling for change & didn't they realize that the GOP was in the WH, Huckles put the blame for the shit we're in firmly on the Democrats - they've been in charge of Congress for the last 18 months, so it's all their fault.
THIS is the tactic they will use for the next 2 months - Romney blamed the liberals in Washington, Guiliani touched on it, and now they're fanning out to the talk shows to repeat the lie about the big, scary, liberals...
Posted by: ceu
at September 5, 2008 8:24 PM
@ JG - it'll happen soon enough. I said it earlier today on another post. They're going to be Jonesing for their Palin fix like a $2 crack ho. And they're gonna get nasty when they don't get it.

Carl,
I honestly have to say that it's past time to just say NO to FOX news! I almost can't believe that any Democrat still agrees to any interview with O'Reilly, Hannity, or any of their other hacks.
It's clearly a right wing propaganda machine, nothing else! If all Dems boycotted FOX and all Dem voters boycotted all products advertised on FOX news it would dry and wither on the vine!

@ jane - I just saw that you visited my blog and left a comment. On 9/10/01 I was the assistant production electrician for Michael Jackson's 30th Anniversary Concert at Madison Square Garden. The second of two concerts was that Monday night and there was an overnight load out. We were closing the doors on the last couple of trucks when we heard an airplane had crashed into one of the towers. There was confusion as to what type of plane - some were speculating a small Cessna type. Then we heard a second plane had hit and we knew there was a major problem.
By the way, I work on a musical. LOL! What do you do in the theatre world?

Hey Jane...how goes the weather in NC?
Posted by: cminri
at September 5, 2008 8:54 PM
Kans - I think FNC has been working at a loss since its inception, run by Rupert Murdoch. He's trying to get the nutwing message out so it doesn't matter how much money they lose. He's a bilionaire - same with that rag, the NY Post.
Also, I don't think many (if any) Dems watch iton a regular basis. I caught the interview on You Tube , by the way.

at September 5, 2008 8:56 PM
Jeez...that recap of the RNC was enough to drive me back to the bottle I thought I drained last night. Props to "Countdown," for replaying the glorious "John Bush" comment again. And can I express how excited I am about Rachel Maddow's show beginning on Monday? A Keith & Rachel sandwich. If only I could be in the middle...
And a good evening to all from the marathon session last night. Jane - I see you are a NC girl too! Having fun with Hanna?

Hey Kat - I'm really excited for Rachel's show as well. I wonder what kind of format they'll have.

I'm in Wilmington, Jane...and it's just finally starting to rain good here. It's supposed to move out quickly though, which is positive.

McCain/Palin campaign violated yet another copyright by using 'Barracuda' at the convention.
Can't these people respect the IP of others?
Posted by: Scrum

@ Scrum - I read that this morning on TMZ (no I don't go there, my friend sent me the link). First Jackson Browne, then Van Halen, now Heart! What the hell is wrong with these people? The fucked up thing is that they know they have one play before they get caught, so they're just brazen about it - fuckos.
Also, did anyone catch that they used the intro to Van Halen's "Right Now" when McThuselah walked out on stage like the Lollipop Guild? Just the first few bars, then they went to some cheesy 70's sythesizer music... probably to match the POW clips.

McCain can't reach across the aisle! Arms are too short. (Colbert: Lieberman reaches across the aisle all the time...whenever he pats himself on the back.)
If Cain voted with McBush 95% of the time, that may exceed the amount of time he's voted with earlier versions of himself.

@ Kat - yeah baby! That's some definite prime spanking fodder.
On a completely unrelated note, does anyone else think Candy Crowley has an unfortunate name?
Posted by: Broadway Carl
at September 5, 2008 10:02 PM
Candy Crowley may not think so, but I really wish Hillary would come out and just blast Mooselini (I'm using that from now on....just like other substitutions for things like maverick). In my eyes, it would go far to redeem her after all her shenanigans during the primaries. She should go out there and decisively show any remaining undecided Hillary supporters the vast canyon of differences between the two of them. I think Hillary owes it to Obama.

Ah, fact checking on CNN. I love fact checking!
Posted by: ceu
at September 5, 2008 10:06 PM
Yeah, I'm not completely sure about that TRUE fact check regarding McCain's support for the war. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he talking specifically about the surge? And even if he was talking about the war as a whole, when was he a "cocksucker" (aka "maverick") by supporting the war that he claims was unpopular if the entire Republican party comtinued to support it?
Posted by: Broadway Carl
at September 5, 2008 10:10 PM
Paul Begala on CNN: "If McCain's a maverick, I'm a Hasidic diamond merchant." He's used that before, but damn, it never gets old.

Posted by: jane
at September 5, 2008 10:16 PM
Yeah, Carl. I'm with you. PLUS I'm not sure tht the analysis of the results of the surge. There were other factors involved in reducing violence besides the surge - and there are still car bombings and mass murders.

That's the thing about this GOP talking point that the surge has succeeded and that we're "winning", whatever the fuck that means. Winning what? Because they're only killing themselves at the rate of 2 or 3 a day instead of 9 or 10, does that mean we're succeeding? They make it sound like BOOM! Surge worked, all's good and you're an idiot if you didn't support it.
I still say the surge failed because the point was to reduce violence to give the government time for reconciliation and get their overall shit together WHICH HAS NOT HAPPENED! Doesn't anyone remember the Monkey-Man's speech? Benchmarks? No?
