Liveblogging Prime Time
7:01PM EDT
Chuck Todd just said the phrase "Hurricane Palin." And with that, here's tonight's open thread for documenting the cavalcade of cable news hackery. Enjoy!
7:05PM
Rachel Maddow beat Larry King last night in the ratings. Hello!
7:08PM
Ron Brownstein is having an orgasm on Hardball over McCain's women numbers -- numbers that were all but negated by Obama's jump in male numbers. Anyway, he was literally breathless with excitement. Liberal media!
7:14PM
Chuck Todd: "Steve Schmidt's a good guy!" Rove's protege. Is a good guy, Chuck says. So very liberal, this media of ours.
8:02PM
New Olbermann feature: "McCain in the Membrane." Genius.

"Hurricane Palin"?! As in what? If the McCain campaogn wins her hurricane force lies will destroy the country? If it was meant as praise after the demotion of Olbermann and Matthews then shame on Todd. It's unnecessary and gutless.

Why is everyone acting like we're over any bump there may have been. Maybe if all the news channels weren't running Sarah Palin 24/7 we'd have a better idea. How many times did MSNBC cut away to cover yet ANOTHER repeat of Palin's one speech?

I'm a white woman who didn't go to college (so apparently I should be all for this nightmare of a ticket.) I would never, ever vote for McCain, and I think Sarah Palin is a disgrace.

(And sorry for posting that other comment twice.)

Nice family values, stripper-dater! (No offense to strippers...I just wonder what the religious right has to say about that.)

I think it's even more appropriate to bring up the fact that he cheated on and then left his disabled wife for the ice queen with the blood diamonds. I loved when she was going on about how honest and true he is as a husband. I have to wonder whether wife #1 was at home watching.
Vote Obama - one house/one spouse

@idreamofskiba:
Actually, you misspelled it twice. You left out the "ur" after the "T" and before the "d."

I dream- Thank Flying SM for you. I was so upset tonight I flipped off a car full of young republicans, just for their bumper sticker. Meaningless? Yes! Did I feel better? No! But it's hard to try to win over converts at 50 mph.

at September 9, 2008 7:48 PM
jane - I was in Ohio a few weeks ago and say an SUV with a Bush/Cheney '04 bumper sticker still on the back. I looked at my wife in amazement that we actually saw a 30 percenter.

That would be "saw" an SUV. My typing it atrocious today.

Sarah Palin's voice is worse than chalk on a blackboard! EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
Posted by: cminri
at September 9, 2008 7:59 PM
And Palin totally fucked up the pronounciation of Lancaster, PA...while saying "here in Pennsylvannia, we don't..." What's this WE shit?
Posted by: ceu
at September 9, 2008 7:59 PM
Ahhhhh, Palin's voice is killing my brain. Her attitude about the Guns and God comment just proves that she, and the Republicans, never understood what Obama actually meant.

Jane & Carl, when I see a car with McCain or Bush stickers, I always have to get a good look...I always wonder "who are these people?" I saw a guy with a Bush/Cheney 2000 sticker last night. I don't remember exactly what it said... something about integrity. HA!

I have a neighbor who STILL has a "W the President" sticker (you know, the black one). I have an uncontrollable urge to replace it with the "F the president" sticker.
They have a For Sale By Owner sign discreetly hung on their fence. (In this market I say heh heh.)
And I could tell you a story about the guy calling the cops on my black roommate who was helping me look for an escaped cat one night...heh.
Posted by: jane
at September 9, 2008 8:10 PM
Actually, I will anyway. He asked my roommate "what are you doing" (looking for my cat). "What does it look like?" (It's fat and orange.) "Do you live around here?" (Yes. Anymore fucking questions (sic)?.) Calls popos on his cell phone, follows my roomie down the street. My roommate takes out his own phone and calls the cops too-"I'm being harassed by a neighbor- he's followed me down the street. My name is (gives name)." Pussy neighbor finally gives in and goes away.
So yeah, I love them. But I really love my roommate.

at September 9, 2008 8:15 PM
Great story, Jane. I like that your friend called the cops too. That's awesome.
Posted by: idreamofskiba
at September 9, 2008 8:20 PM
Not only that, he was blinking his flashlight in the guy's face before he called the cops. The neighbor says, "get him to stop that- it's immature." I said I thought it was pretty fucking funny (sic).
But surprise- sometimes my roommate's attitude has gotten him into trouble (gasp!) with authority.
Posted by: jane
at September 9, 2008 8:26 PM
Awesome story, Jane. But really... what was your roommate actually doing?
Posted by: Broadway Carl

He was Walking with a Flashlight While Black (WWFWB).

Loew: do you think MSNBC can banish Keith even further? Maybe make him wear a dunce hat and sit in the corner? Fortunately, there's a chance Rachel will be the replacement for major pol event coverage. And I haven't seen her say ONE thing they could argue with.

Does anyone know anyone that hasn't made up their mind in this race yet? Who are these people?
Seriously. Instead of just venting we really need to find these folks and do some intervention work.
How about we go to the mall and hand out crap. One person hands out a McCain/Palin button...if the passer by takes it, we know they're likely unreachable.
As the passer-by continues on, the next person on our team offers an Obama/Biden button, if the passer by opts for that one, we know we've got one for our team.
If the person takes neither...we've found someone that needs help! If they take BOTH we've REALLY found one!! A third person on the team approaches the person and opens a dialog. Hopefully we can start to inoculate many undecideds from this sh*t storm of lies.
We gotta do something, people. I'm NOT gonna sit around 3 months from now b*tching about how we blew another one!! STAND UP!! STAND UP!!
I'd pay to make some McCain/Palin buttons. We could make them fun...something you have to look at a couple of times before you get the joke.
Who's ready to shut down and stand up??

KO wears his heart on his sleeve. I'm glad he's giving a special comment because of that Fxx and Friends Steve Douchey distortion. Maybe he'll straighten them out. I can't stand those fuckwads fuckers at that show. And what a fucking joke that Fox News is calling MSNBC biased!
Posted by: Broadway Carl
at September 9, 2008 8:46 PM
Jane: I dont think they will, and certainly hope they wont. His ratings are too good for him to be banished further, and he's already been kicked off anchoring important political events, i would hope that's banishment enough.

at September 9, 2008 8:47 PM
heh, people who call the mainstream media biased are forgetting that REALITY has a liberal bias at this point. Republicans are so full of mistruths and disinformation that they expect the media to be unbiased when they tell us that the sky isn't blue.

ugh. I can't stand listening to clips of Sarah Palin anymore. It's not because of her horrendous positions or her constant lies... it's the way she smacks her lips before everything she says. Drives me fucking insane.

So is she just going to give that same speech for the next two months? "Ya know... being a small town mayor's a lot like being community organzier, except that you have ACTUAL responsibilities, don'cha know."
Yeah, like making sure there's enough snow on the ground in fucking ALASKA to race the Iditarod you fucking lying sack of shit.

Picture her during the debate in a month:
Palin: "I said thanks but no thanks for that bridge to nowhere... I sold a plane.. I put it on Ebay...hee hee..."
Biden: "What the fuck is going on here? Didn't someone change out her audio file?"

Of course there's a better chance the alcohol poisoning from November 4th's celebration will kill me.
