“I understand the economy. I was chairman of the Commerce Committee that oversights every part of our economy,” McCain told CNBC’s Squawk Box.
Reality:
In fact, it is the Senate Banking Committee that has oversight of “banks, banking and financial institutions; control of prices of commodities, rents and services; federal monetary policy, including the Federal Reserve System; financial aid to commerce and industry and money and credit, including currency and coinage.”
Dishonorable liar. Either that or he's a complete shit for brains.

Actually this is Four-Way Asshattery: Either he's,
- A dishonorable liar
- A complete shit for brains
- Utterly incompetent at Chairing committees
- Politically retarded
The latter two are the more damning, in my estimation: John McCain thinks he spent all this time Chairing the committee that "oversights" the economy, which it doesn't, but more to the point, he must have done it extremely badly to let the country fall into this economic meltdown. So even when he's in Fairy Pretend Land, he sucks ass at what he does. And only a political retard would lie about chairing a committee in order to take credit for the meltdown largely caused by failures in that committee.
