McCain Says 'Horseshit'
Oh yes he did. Twice. Leave it to McRage to be the first candidate to use profanity in a televised presidential debate.
UPDATE: Sullivan says that McCain says "course not." I'm not so sure. The video Sullivan is using doesn't show McCain's face. But in the above version, you can clearly see McCain's mouth saying "horseshit."

my mate, who also considers himself an 'old man', says Gramps' lack of eye contact was simply him trying to muster every fiber of his slipping powers of concentration...or perhaps trying, and failing, to refrain from cussing.

Hey Bob - I got a clip up here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=479ybG-bKrg
If you listen closely he says "that's horseshit - horseshit", so he actually says it twice. I been playing around with the audio some trying to isolate it more, but haven't had much luck.

I was just watching the MSNBC version. It's hard to tell in the clip and angle if he was saying Horseshit or "'Course not." We need a really really clean head-on shot.
The head-on shot in the clip above is pretty convincing though...
If he did, it just goes to show that he can't control himself in any venue. Anything can come out of his mouth, or worse, any idea can come out of his head.

I need to go thru the transcripts and see what his answer was to that.
As I remember he was not able to correct the record or explain that in any way, just more rambling about Obama's naivete.

From the transcripts:
" He even said the other day that he would not meet potentially with the prime minister of Spain, because he -- you know, he wasn't sure whether they were aligned with us. I mean, Spain? Spain is a NATO ally.
MCCAIN: Of course.
OBAMA: If we can't meet with our friends, I don't know how we're going to lead the world in terms of dealing with critical issues like terrorism.
MCCAIN: I'm not going to set the White House visitors schedule before I'm president of the United States. I don't even have a seal yet.
Look, Dr. Kissinger did not say that he would approve of face-to- face meetings between the president of the United States and the president -- and Ahmadinejad. He did not say that."
Nowhere, at any point does McDoofus try to explain away the dissing of Spain! Because he can't!

I'm really, really want to believe McCain said "horseshit" and an older guy would use that phrase as opposed to "bullshit" considering McCain probably rode horses to his first congressional meetings, but I wish I could be 100% certain. I do know this: saying "Of course" or "Of course not" doesn't make sense as a response to what Obama is saying if you read the transcript... so maybe it is "horseshit." WOW!

The good thing is that it doesn't matter! The more people who argue about it, the more will listen to the clip trying to hear it for themselves. Which means that they'll hear, repeatedly, Obama's pointing out that McGrumpy isn't willing to meet with our allies while McHostile gives that creepy grin. It's a gift. :)

Oh, excellent point, ceu. But I really hope it's "horseshit" and he gets further branded a loose cannon (something else he would remember regular use of in the cavalry) even during a debate. Both would be a great gift.

That video sure makes it look like the grumpy old guy just breaks down and says, 'Horeshit!' The other possibilities don't make sense. The fact he did not rebut Obama's comment about his Spanish blunder suggests there was nothing he could say.
I love this--thanks for uncovering this version--and long live Bob Cesca!!!

I was born hard of hearing. I had 6 years of extremely demanding speech reading from age 7-13. Face straight on, from an angle, it's easy. From the side it's much harder....
Now I'm post lingually deaf. My eyes have totally compensated for my ears. I lipread tons of different lips and jaws everyday. It's my second, third, fourth and fifth nature.
I know every "dupe" out there. For example, I can distinguish between these:
I love you
Island view
I'll have two
Olive juice
Elephant shoes
I don't need a clean, straight on shot to tell you that I'm 100% certain that he said "That's horseshit... horseshit". Look in the mirro and say "course not" Notice how your jaw drops straight down for "not". Then say horseshit and you can see your jaw doesn't need to drop as much.
The "sh" in shit forces your lips forward into a semi-grin. It's clear as day that McCain is saying horseshit.
By the way, I attended Obama's speech in Golden, CO a few weeks ago. I sat about 20 feet from the man - whoo hoo! They had a sign language interpreter but Obama's such an easy person to lipread, partly because he knows how to speak/communicate. I didn't need an interpreter.
I like the fact that he's never going to say "Read my lips" the way Bush Sr. did.
Anyways, what a fucking loser McCain is. Right along with my old man. He laughed at times that was the laugh of denial. My dad does this if we mention some uncomfortable truths that he simply wishes didn't exist. What a fucker.
Speaking of the f-word, I'm able to post at HuffPo regularly. Johnny McFuckingCain gets through for me. I'm sure McHorseshitCain will, too.

Wow. Great post FS.
Btw, this is not a difficult mystery to solve. Whoever had press pool responsibility for this debate was required to record ISO' for all mics. That means we "could" get a clean capture of whatever it was he said and process the livin' hell out of it to make it clear enough for my gramma to make out. If the press doesn't look into this and clearly refute it by playing the clip, the fix is in.

McCain was embarrassed and caught off guard. He blurted out "horseshit" twice plain and simple. Look at the look on his face, like he wanted Obama to hear it, but not the moderator.
No way did he say 'certainly not' or he would have come right out and said that LOUDLY back at Obama, and explained the PM of Spain thing his own way.
No, he said horseshit.

Why do farts smell?
So deaf people can enjoy them.
I read your post cousinavi. I don't have an account set up to comment on WP blogs, I don't respond very well to pressure because to me, it's artificial and pointless. Before I made my comment above I played that video about 50 times, as well as reviewed the debate itself to pick up his speech patterns.
His body language is a dead give away. I'm sure others caught this: whenever he was getting worked up he did that whole inspector clouseau thing with his face and eyes. I hated it because I hated it when my dad did it. I knew what was coming: horseshit. I mean pure inane bullshit lying.
And when he wasn't worked up, his eyes were like pure black, like the black oil from the X-files. And then I knew the aliens had him controlled again and would try to say something intelligible through the drool hole. They did a good job.
And I did a good job of mimicking him so if I am ever abducted I know exactly how to act so they know I'm already controlled and no invasive procedures necessary. Just drop me back in the field by my house.

There's not doubt he said "Horseshit". I guess it's Mavericky to say stuff like that under your breath vs. refute the claim.
I'd like to see CNN produce a bumper that runs that comment over a close up shot, along with an anchor reading this copy - "Senator McCain utters 'Terrorist Code Word' at Debate???"
This makes the fist bump look "cute".

@FrictionSoul
You don't need an account to post comments on WordPress blogs. You just make up a name...you can even invent an email address. As far as my little barking mad corner of the tubes, you need not even type in one of those little "Are you human?" codes...
Just flail away until you're exhausted and jam the button.
Have noticed McCain's lifeless black eyes before. I think it's what happens when you sell your soul.
