More of The Same
The Republicans have found their new George W. Bush. Governor Palin or Governor Bush. They're the same. It's as if they looked at the real Bush and said, We can top it -- drop the Texas, add Alaska and some non-prescription glasses and taa-daaa!
Like Bush, the Republicans can feed into her every lie and smear they invent and she's comfortable repeating all of it by rote -- last night's speech was largely written before she was selected. They can control her on policy because she's a policy lightweight. She's loaded with scandals. Do the list and it's a healthy start to her own "Bushed!" feaure on Countdown. She's a far-right fundamentalist with out-of-touch social views. Other than her family story, she's insubstantial. And, of course, they both say "nookular."
And based on the cable news coverage I'm seeing this morning, the usual suspects are falling for it. Again.

It wasn't just a home run, said CNN's Wolf Blitzer; it may have been a grand slam. "A very auspicious debut," said NBC's Tom Brokaw. It was a "perfect populist pitch," said CBS' Jeff Greenfield. "Terrific," said Mort Kondracke on Fox News Channel.
"A star is born," said Chris Wallace on Fox.
"A star is born," Blitzer said.
"A star is born," said Anderson Cooper on CNN.

Please remember that Republicans and the MSM are used to being told lies, falsehoods and misrepresentations, but the average voter has gotten wiser over the past 8 years.

She is in fact a distillation of Bush.
A horrible and dazzling truth stranger than any fiction.
She is a close to perfect realization of the Bush meme.
And very dangerous. Very, very dangerous.
Bush used his "regular-guy", dumbed down populist persona as a strategy - a winning strategy (why he could lose the debates to Gore/Kerry and still really win them). But of course in his case, it was largely a put on. He is, in reality, the ivy-league educated scion of one of the most powerful families in America.
Sarah Palin is the real thing!
Look out!
There is a very real chance that the Republicans can win this election, and a possibility that somewhere down the line, Sarah Palin could be the President of the United States.

After tonight, Sarah Palin will most likely drop from the headlines as attention will turn back to McCain, and the country will wonder which leader will be best for average Americans.
Nothing from last night convinced me that we aren't going to win that fight.

You know..its all starting to make sense now. Maybe Karl Rove is as diabolical as we feared. Maybe he was looking for a new puppet to be just like Dubya. They found that in Sarah Palin who would blindly follow their fearmongering and hate driven agenda. If I was McCain, I would be looking over my shoulder..

Palin is going nowhere. If TrooperGate gets her and she is forced to Spiro Agnew down the road, who cares? She's only about winning the election. Does anyone think the GOP believes they NEED SARAH PALIN in the White House?
She is going to soak up attention, alter the slate of issues, generate repeated opportunities for the GOP yammer to hit all the points they WANT to hit AND avoid all the questions they OUGHT TO BE FACING...
(Sorry for the excesive caps - I get carried away)
Here be dragons.
Canadian legend has it that CA-NA-DA was a native word for "village". Bullshit. On the maps of Spanish explorers, north of the Great Lakes, they wrote "A qui nada" - Here is nothing.
A qui nada.
