Race For the PTA

People Magazine:

Sen. McCain, of all the candidates you considered, what drew you to her?

JOHN: [snip] She's taken on special interests since she ran for the PTA and the city council and mayor. The courage, I guess, is what most impressed me.

Ran for the PTA? Unless I've missed something here, you don't have to "run" for the PTA. Any batshit, overzealous parent can walk in and be a member. Hell, even students can be in the PTA.

Is McCain aware of what the PTA even is?

ADDING: And since when do "special interests" lobby the Moms on the PTA? So much so that Palin had to "take them on"? Very courageous! What -- the powerful 'Big Cookie' lobby was paying off members to include fewer fudge brownies in the bake sale?! This is through the looking glass, y'all. Shockingly stupid.

UPDATE: Lacey posted almost the exact same thought yesterday. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's curious about the influence of special interests on the PTA.

The problem, of course, is not the reality of Palin. The problem is that the MSM will not address the truth without filtering it through the Republican lens. That's been the problem with the Palin pick from the beginning. Never mind that she campaigned for the bridge to nowhere, let's report she fought it. Never mind that Alaska being close to Russia not only makes no fucking sense what so ever when talking about foreign policy experience, but also implies we have something to fear from a Russian attack on the US--not just an attack, a ground war attack. Never mind that comparing her experience to that of anyone who serves in a state with a city like Chicago is like comparing the experience of the president of the United States to the president of the PTA. Oh, I guess it's not just like that, it is that.

The MSM, BBQ media as you say, are determined to help McCain win. I don't understand why, and it's the most frustrating thing conceivable to me right now. I know they like their ratings and their dollars, but all this comes at the expense of lives; many American lives not to mention the lives of citizens of other countries we continue to war with and will war with in the future. We are to the point where the MSM is also culpable in the unnecessary deaths of tens of thousands.

One more thing, we need to see Tina Fey come back to SNL for a guest spot playing Palin, bring Rob Morrow on to play her husband. You see where I'm going with this. Put them in the White House. Play the Northern Exposure theme to introduce. Have Palin in the Oval Office. Should they make a joke about all of Maggie/Palin's boyfriends dying? Their call. Show her as lost. Show her bumbling to figure things out. Really just make her look like a PTA mom in the presidents chair.

The MSM is basically tabloid journalism at this point. They even got lectured by The Enquirer on the John Edwards story.

I wonder if the media owners thought that, in order to compete with the internet, that they had to resort to sensationalism or that pandering was the way to go. Or is it simply that they are beholden to ratings? What's the influence of the "good ole boys" club? I know folks here will recall Couric and others saying that they felt "pressure" to report in a certain manner.

The sad fact is that the general populace laps it up without demanding more objectivity and balance and, you know, real journalism.

Shoot, for that matter, a good example is that interview with Cindy McCain where she stated that Palin has foreign experience cred 'cause Alaska is close to Russia. And what did George S. do? Went on to the next question without even balking at the stupidity.

We deserve so much more than this.

When tools and weenies like George Stephonopoulus pass for "journalists," it should be no surprise that the 'cons continue to get a pass. The behavior of the BBQ crew doesn't shock me anymore; what does is that after eight years of hell and lies, people still choose to believe the MSM propaganda machine! Pathetic. Pitiful and pathetic.

A little off topic...

I wonder if SP means that this is her daughter's second child?

Not that I necessarily believe the rumors, I'm just saying.
