The Great Fear of 2008 - Waffles Edition
This is pretty close to being the worst thing from this election so far. That's right -- a team of far-right oompas are selling something called "Obama Waffles," complete with a not-so-subtle Aunt Jemima box-front. And bonus artwork: Obama wearing a turban with the slogan: "Point the box towards Mecca for tastier waffles."
CNN’s Lou Dobbs stopped by the booth and exclaimed, “My wife will love this!” A photo shows Dobbs with a box of the mix in his hand.
Is Lou Dobbs married to David Duke? Wow. Happy returns, Dobbses!
UPDATE: Pandagon has the story behind the guys who came up with the product.
("The Great Fear of 2008" is a chapter from my forthcoming book One Nation Under Fear. The chapter analyses race-baiting tactics from 1860 to 2008.)

this is the link to the original story:
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/washington/AP-Obama-Waffles.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
the back of the box contains this:
On the back of the box, Obama is depicted in stereotypical Mexican dress, including a sombrero, above a recipe for "Open Border Fiesta Waffles" that says it can serve "4 or more illegal aliens." The recipe includes a tip: "While waiting for these zesty treats to invade your home, why not learn a foreign language?"
It's beyond awful.

Beyond awful is right. I'm glad Pandagon managed to get the photo of Dobbs with this crap before these nutjobs pulled it off their webpage. I think Lou Dobbs needs to become the new Don Imus. CNN are you listening?
It's not easy living in Tennessee, btw. This sort of racism is rampant and increasingly out in the open. It's nauseating.

I didn't know Lou Dobbs was such a dick.

Just when I thought things could not possibly get more appalling. Please tell me how the republicans continue to own the narrative? They call sexism where it does not exist and yet overt racism is fine? This makes me crazy. And also sends me to give more money to Obama!

What's the mystery here? No one in the media wants to acknowledge the "800 pound gorilla" in the room.I overheard this the other day... "Well, ya know, he's BLACK!!!" *wink*
Doesn't matter that he's HALF-WHITE(!)and Harvard-educated.
But, I guess he should know his place! He forgot the memo that says, "BLACK people were brought here as 'the help'. Doesn't he know that he can ONLY aspire to sing & dance, or run, jump, and throw a ball???"
Awwwww racism, the 'fabric of America'!
As progressive as we (Americans) think we have become, I fear that the reality is BO won't be elected (do to, you know,...that 'gorilla thing').

This election has brought to light everything that is beautiful and everything that is absolutely disgusting about the people this country.

Pecos Bill - it shouldn't have to matter that he's half-white. What would be wrong if he were ALL black?
I didn't know about the turban and mecca crap. I'm sorry guys, but my stomach just turned.

I think the most telling moment is when they joked "Uh.. he's on safari". That makes no sense, and their snickering shows that they know they're purposely tapping into racism and stereotypes. They're not just ignorant hicks. They know what they're doing.
And it's going to be so great watching them weeping in the streets in November.

QT,
EXACTLY MY POINT!
Can you imagine if BOTH his parents were BLACK???!
He would NOT have made it (EPIC historical feat!), even to this point!
Lets see,
-trailer trash redneck with dubious educational background
vs.
-bi-racial muslim(sarcasm) with Haaavaaad edumication...
NO CONTEST! BO must be up in every poll 70% to McKept's 20%, right???
I'm sure MOST americans are gonna pick the most qualified person...*wink*
Next time,
I wanna run for VP! I have LOTS of experience! Growing up in San Diego. I could actually
see the chicanos scurrying across the border and freeways at night! AND, although I never met the mayor of Tijuana, I do have the "I've been to the Donkey Show" as a 'foreign'credential!
Not to offend anyone, just my sense of humor!
Goddamn,Bob,
I LOVE THIS SITE!!
