Whoops!
Peggy Noonan and Mike Murphy think the Palin selection is both "cynical" and "political bullshit":
Oh noes! Open microphone! h/t TPM
UPDATE: Better TPM transcript after the jump...
Peggy Noonan: Yeah.Mike Murphy: You know, because I come out of the blue swing state governor world: Engler, Whitman, Tommy Thompson, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush. I mean, these guys -- this is how you win a Texas race, just run it up. And it's not gonna work. And --
PN: It's over.
MM: Still McCain can give a version of the Lieberman speech to do himself some good.
CT: I also think the Palin pick is insulting to Kay Bailey Hutchinson, too.
PN: Saw Kay this morning.
CT: Yeah, she's never looked comfortable about this --
MM: They're all bummed out.
CT: Yeah, I mean is she really the most qualified woman they could have turned to?
PN: The most qualified? No! I think they went for this -- excuse me-- political bullshit about narratives --
CT: Yeah they went to a narrative.
MM: I totally agree.
PN: Every time the Republicans do that, because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at, they blow it.
MM: You know what' sreally the worst thing about it? The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical.
CT: This is cynical, and as you called it, gimmicky.
MM: Yeah.

"Cynical" was the first word I thought of when I saw she had been chosen. I LOVE hearing it come from Peggy and Mike! LOL

Elvis, I may be in love with you.

That was amazing. I knew that there had to be more to this "Oh, we support her" mentality. I wish they had the balls to say that stuff on the actual air, not just an open mic.

I've come to grudgingly respect Mike Murphy since the Palin Gambit, if only because he hasn't given her nomination the usual Republican Talking Point mealy-mouthed bullshit I thought he would. He's been very critical of the whole thing, and as much as I dislike his politics, he knows what he's talking about.

Holy cow! How'd this surface? I just trekked around Drudge & HuffPost and didn't see it... is this your scoop, Bob?

I love you, too, "Paddy." In a completely heterosexual and appropriate way. Except for the part where we're drinking beer in a hot-tub watching MSNBC in our Barack Obama Underoos together. That part's pretty gay.

I really want to watch the Palin Effect tonite but I don't want the ratings to go up....
I'll stick to the web to get me the info.

Now I'm in my comfort zone: Paddy the Vaginaed American above me, RecruitGal whose own Barack Obama Underoos I've been known to make wet on occasion (from laughter-induced peeing, gutter-heads! Sheesh!) below me, The Life™ is good.

that, my friends, is awesome!
Can I get some barack underoos?
Posted by: MCat
at September 3, 2008 4:47 PM
Absolutely, MCat, I sell them out of my garage/blogging lair. Only problem is, my bastard Chinese manufacturers knitted them from lead paint chips and the Dark Matter that, when congealed and infused with pickled Nazi urine, composes Robert Novak's soul.
Also, they only come in XXL. So bring a friend.

I have "Days of the Week" Obama Underoos...
Huffpo have picked this up on their front page. Excellent...

could this get any better.
Two beacons of the right (especial Peggy "Reagan" Noonan) bashing the gimmicky pick.
Unreal--

PS - Hey Paddy, you and GottaLaff should drag your vaginas over to Clusterdouche! every now and then and say hello. Mr. The Bob Cesca and I intend to take over the world shortly, and ours will be the only two blogs left standing when we're done. Better dig in now, girls!

Don't you have to think that these "analysts" have to be worrying about what comes after this GOP ticket dies? Maybe they have to tell the truth to keep some to try and keep some credibility.....Not that it ever stopped them before.
Obama underoos are totally gay. Unlike my Obama bikini briefs, which are AWESOME.

Two words that define the McCain campaign since Steve Schmidt took over: "political bullshit."
This has also defined the last 8 years of Bush. My sense is the shit is starting to roll in a downward direction...How great would a landslide be? The BBQ media will try and make it so that the race is tight--guarantee the speech will be hailed as a triumph by the MSM--but a landslide is just the antidote to unmask the last eight years.

I do 'douche every now and then Elvis (you obviously didn't notice we added you to the blogroll), but since I'm so busy competing with Cesca for stories, my attention is usually taken.

at September 3, 2008 5:20 PM
OK, so a quick whizz around the political blogs, and most of them are running with it. The MSM? Not a peep. Quite a few of them are still headlining with Noonan's op-ed comments from this morning... I imagine that will get pulled shortly.
Interestingly, Fox are running a whole "Don't Be Mean To Girls" extravaganza - which in itself is actually pretty demeaning to women everywhere, but don't get me started on irony.
Let's just savor the moment...

Oh I'm so glad you got this moving. This footage is wonderful stuff! And with that Disneyland-looking building as backdrop.
I've ordered my Obama Underoos. Got a matching bra too.

First of all... everybody back off. I was the first to propose to Elvis. Nano's gots dibbs.
Second, fuck(!) this is GLORIOUS! The McCain Campaign is going to have to go into complete media blackout at this point. If he shows his weathered, translucent mug for five seconds, the BBQ media is going to overload his 72 year old synapses with too many "think fucking fast" questions. This is awesome.
I would love to say "Game Over" but I want to see these shitbirds twist in the wind just a little longer spewing their usual brand of bullshit lies.
GODDAMN AWESOME!

at September 3, 2008 5:28 PM
One thing, slightly off topic. I really hope the BBQ media looks at this speech in terms of the issues expressed by a potential VP, who is a heartbeat away from the Presidency and not a review of the latest Michael Bay flick. I won;t hold my breath. Obama seems to be getting slight bumps in the polls--time to artificially make the race closer...

Y'all had better start pre-ordering your Obama Underoos today, they're apparently going to sell like The Hotcakes™ very soon. Our ad campaign launches tomorrow, but since we love you so much we'll give you a Sneak Peek.
$19.95 a pair, two for ten bucks. Still working on the bikini briefs and the matching bra, the latter of which is so much a confluence of my favorite things -- Barack Obama and boobs -- that I may experience my second Underoo-filling decompression of the day. (That's right ladies: Two in one day, I can so roll like that.)

Does anyone know what Noonan and Murphy had said during the actual interview? Were they shilling for Palin or was it cautious optimism? Did the open mic directly contradict their Head Talking prior?
Posted by: Elvis Dingeldein
at September 3, 2008 6:53 PM
That's disgusting, Mr. The Broadway Carl. Please let's not talk about that sort of thing in front of The Ladies, shall we?

It's cynical, yeah.
It's also a stroke of political genius. McCain has roped in every moron he needs for this thing.
It's shaping out exactly as he wanted it: the media are focusing on her minor controversies, which is, in turn, causing a backlash from Repubs and perhaps women in general.
The Obama bounce from his convention was small compared to past conventions' bounces, and it shrank rather quickly.
All of this is shaping into the highway to hell.. and I'm not in the truck anymore, so I don't really care.
"And although it seems heaven sent
We ain't ready to see a black president"
