Conservative Wick Allison...

...totally endorsed Senator Obama just because Wick is black.

Wait, what?

Wick Allison is the very white (his name is 'Wick') former publisher of the National Review?

This is crazy! Republicans supporting Senator Obama irrespective of race?! How could Limbaugh, Malkin, Buchanan, Will and Gallagher be so wrong!?

Bob, I can throw fives at you all day faster than a RNC delegate at a strip club during the Hurricane Gustav convention delay. I'm in for $20 more to the kitty. Who's with me?

Wonder if this Wisconsin state senator is black too? Must be since she's crossing the aisle to support Obama. And all the other ones listed in this Huffpost--Olympia Snowe!--she must be one of Maine's three African Americans.

If they are going to insist on having this discussion, why does Chris et al not turn the question back on them and say "you have to consider the fact, Pat, that you are not supportive of Sen. Obama PURELY on the basis of race."

IF that is a patently false assumption, so then is the original assertion.

The problem there is, however, that they ARE not supportive based purely on race. Nobody's coming out and saying that publicly though.

Of course race plays a role in this. It's HISTORICAL, it's cultural, it's undeniable...but it's not a BASIS. There's a difference in making a basis decision (ie: he's black and therefore unqualified) and then building up an ancillary array of justifications that insulate your actions from your basic reasoning vs. highlighting your basis and supporting it with additional justifications & considerations. Obama being black is a CONSIDERATION in my decision - admittedly - but it is NOT the basis for my support.

harumph!

I use the moniker "Wick" when giving my name at a restaurant when I have to wait for a table.

*Just a random post for fun.

Yes, in considering and announcing his endorsement, Powell threw in "the kitchen sink": the nonissues of economics, McCain's nonsensical ambition-driven selection of VP, his dirty campaigning, his obvious inability to deal with the crises that arose ("erratic behavior"). Yeah, Pat, in what world would any responsible patriot consider issues like these when choosing a president, when you can just mindlessly check off the Republican box regardless of whose name is in it?
What a dope.

OK,
After watching Powell's endorsement of Obama, and watching Buchanan...

I have one question.

Why are white people so fearful of african americans?

No, really?

I need to make some sense of this...
