Obama Widens His Lead in North Carolina!
I wonder if McCain will have Mitt Romney on standby tonight.

Is McCain going to take Dole down with him? I hope so!

Sorry Bob, you're going to have to stop blogging now for a while. You're raising the entire level of political discourse to a dangerously high level and the tip-over potential is dire. Good and effective satire is essential in a political season but an infusion of pure and unadulterated satiric commentary, such as the kind you are putting out there, can cause toxic shock, something like injecting pure heroin into an old junkie who has had noting but baby laxative and speed in his system for years and years.
Please leave quietly so that others do not become alarmed.

My bet is this bombshell is #1 on Countdown tonight, and our boy Nate will be on the rendition list by morning.

I never thought this state would turn blue again (and I'm knocking on wood at your series of numbers on it). The cities get bigger, bringing a more progressive look, but the flag-waving beer-drinking often racist neighbors of mine out here in the sticks never change. A few more city folks wander in sometimes--enough to make the Obama campaign's hot dog cookout a success (at 50 people or so from several counties, one over the line in SW VA because there is NOTHING going on up there except prepping for deer season by shooting at Obama signs)--but they look as dazed and confused at things as I do. I found myself today telling a friend in Australia that I was afraid to wake up each morning for fear of finding it's all over, they've done it again and now we'll never get it back. Cripes I'm bitching and moaning. Sorry, guys.
Ahem *straightens skirt*--yeah, like I've ever worn a skirt--okay, NC is going BLUE. Maybe. Knock on wood.

Dontpanic (can I just call you 23 from now on??) The swing seems to be happening quickly, eh? I think it's possible that the effect of the economy on the furniture and furniture hauling businesses might be making more than a few eyes look away from the GOP.

Barbie Hasselback was spewing about Ayers today. Sorry...sometimes I have to tune in just to check what she is saying.
Everytime I hear about Obama being ahead in another poll, I take it with a grain of salt. Being a US citizen abroad makes me the person who is asked who I think will win. I cannot let my guard down. I cannot say that Obama will win. All I can say is that they stole the presidency twice, why can't they do it again.
I wish I could enjoy Obama's lead. I really do.

Why can't Ayers sue for defamation/assasination of character? The right wing (Hasselbeck, too!) has been throwing this out for months, based on who Ayers WAS 40 years ago. He's now a professor who was on a board (doing good deeds) with Obama, etc. etc. McCain's hacks continue to paint him as a terrorist asshole. I don't get why THIS is not more of a story AGAINST the right wing slime machine? Or is it, but the BBQ media shields that from us, too?

CEU, it IS rolling quickly (and DP works, or 23, I respond to either). Only a couple of weeks ago it was pink. Now not only are there hundreds more manufacturing jobs gone (Hanes was a BIG one) but Wachovia employees may be standing in that line too. My son was laid off from a small business on Tuesday. Boss said "the economy" and that was it--he was last hired. There goes half the groceries for a while. If these people don't vote the bastards out this time...stupid doesn't even sufficiently cover it. We're way past stupid.

I find it interesting that our BBQ media has beat the drum of "why is he not ahead by more, why can't he close" for months--and now he has opened a nice sized lead (that we cannot get complacent with)--and now they "don't trust" those leads, or undermine or soften them in some way--

I live in NC and I just went to the grocery store. While walking through the parking lot I saw at least 6 McCain bumper stickers, and one for Obama (it was mine!). I see these polls and I get excited and then I go to the grocery store and I want to throttle people. But we are working hard here. I was at the Democratic HQ's in my town last weekend, and it was buzzing. People of every race and age. We can do this, and I'll be crazy proud of my state if they pull through.

Ladies and Gentlemen, introducing Sen. John McFuckstick:
Sen. John McCain jokingly said Thursday that Sen. Barack Obama's poll numbers are rising as the economy seems to sink "because life isn't fair."
(ha ha! Isn't that a scream?)
Sen. Barack Obama is widening his lead against Sen. John McCain in recent polls.
"He certainly did nothing for the first few days," McCain told Fox News on Thursday. "I suspended my campaign, took our ads down, came back to Washington, met with the House folks and got on the phone, and also had face-to-face meetings."

Come on, NC! We can do it! I'm sure it depends on where in the state you live, but I ran to the store today too, jadeelise, and my numbers were flipped compared to yours! And the one McCain car was this middle aged white lady who couldn't drive worth a damn. I actually considered tapping her bumper she was irritating me so much (with the combination of bad driving and crappy bumper sticker).
Disclaimer: I say 'middle aged white lady' with great affection - I know plenty of them who are also voting for Obama.

If Obama wins NC, we will be looking at a LANDSLIDE!!!!!!!!!!!! I do hope that is the case--I want to slam the door on Faux News, Rush Limbaugh, George Bush, and the 'stupidization' of our great country over the last 8 years.

Kat, as a spokesperson for the Middle Aged White Ladies of NC, I can say for certain that some of us not only have Obama stickers but can also DRIVE. ;>) The one you saw is probably blind from spending her life making sure she is seeing only white people. Kinda like snowblind.
I'm with Jade, the stickers up here in the hills are 6 to 1 McCain. And the racists probably run in about the same numbers.
