She Doesn't Know, Does She
Sarah Palin, First Amendment Champion:
"If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations, then I don't know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media."
Governor... The press is constitutionally mandated to ask tough questions of politicians. Especially when politicians say crazy things, like that time when a candidate for vice president didn't know what the vice president does. Or the time when the same candidate accused Democrats of supporting communism.
That's why a free press is guaranteed in the First Amendment. Are you suggesting that the press shouldn't be critical of politicians -- that the press ought to just step aside and let you say whatever batshit string of wingnuttery pops into your dome without calling you on it?
How very Bushie of you, Governor. How very McCarthyist of you.

She's not really concerned about the press questioning or criticizing politicians.
She's concerned about the press questioning or criticizing HER.
You betcha!
If you question or criticize Bible Spice, then you are a godless, pinko socialist commie muslin loving terrorist sympathizing anti-American!
And also.

By the way: I firmly believe she DOES have the right to say whatever she wants, no matter HOW frigging idiotic it is.
In fact, I encourage it.

What's wrong with muslin all of the sudden! You mean I have to stop making all these dresses for the Gov'na?

HA!
I have ALWAYS loved muslin! Never been too keen on corduroy, though.
Sorry for the typo, LFOD.

Her considerable suction as a constitutional scholar has been demonstrated previously, yet she continues to dazzle the shit out of us.

So basically she's now saying that "your right to criticize me infringes on your right to criticize me."

She's breathtakingly stupid.
And she's MY Governor.
Gawd, I'm so depressed.

Holy cow moose, Palin has NEVER READ the US Constitution!
Palin is MONUMENTALLY IGNORANT and unfit to lead.
Greenwald has a good take on it:

You know, it's even worse when Sarah more or less makes grammatical sense--then we are confronted with the jaw-dropping ignorance underlying her statements. D'oh! Sorry--I didn't mean to infringe on the Governor's First Amendment rights there....

The list of what Sarah Palin doesn't know is breathtaking.
Like many others, she doesn't understand the media's foremost function, and she doesn't understand that the First Amendment does not guarantee that you can say anything you want without consequence.
I'm exercising my right not to listen to her for the next three days. My finger's on the button, Sarah -- the mute button.

Not only does she not know much, but it's transparent (see what I did there) that she doesn't give a flying f::k either.

Packy,
did you guys in Alaska know how little she knows and how ethically challenged she is before she became a national media darling?
Love the Alaska mudflats blog. Are you familiar with it?

The thing is...it seems that NONE of the Republicans have read the Constitution. They do not know that treaties made with foreign countries are the law of the land, not something to be flouted whenever they feel like.
They also say, repeatedly, that the most important job of the president is to keep the country safe. NO. That is UNTRUE. The most important job of the president is to preserve, protect, and defend the CONSTITUTION of the US. And it angers me that they don't seem to know that!

A great man once said...
The Constitution is just a piece of paper.
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha...can't even dream of typing that with a straight face. But I had to try.

DP: I wish I could claim credit for "Bible Spice." Credit where credit is due: Alec Baldwin came up with it.
Yelo: I think that most Alaskans had no clue as to how clueless she is... not to mention petty, vindictive, and prone to abusing her power.
I usually check Mudflats every day. Same with "I Eat Gravel," "The Immoral Minority," and "Shannyn Moore."
Another Alaskan blog you might want to check out is AndrewHalcro.com. He is pretty good, too.
Halcro was one of her opponents in the gubernatorial race, and his point of view is usually enlightening.
