Hard Days at the Velodrome

As a cyclist, I'm lucky enough to live within quick driving (or riding) distance from one of the last remaining velodromes in America: the Lehigh Velodrome. Accompanying this bike racing track is a bicycle park with miles of paved trails for no-cars riding, along with my favorite cycling shop, Cyclodrome. Unfortunately, the velodrome is hitting some hard times:

...tax records reviewed by the Morning Call of Allentown show that since 2000, the arena has lost a cumulative $564,000. Only two fiscal years since then have been profitable.

"Some of the people there are way too close to bicycling," (Former CEO) Ron Horn said. "They think the sport should be good enough to bring people to the velodrome. It is not." The board declined to renew Horn's contract after one year running the arena.

John hits the nail on the head:

Sounds like all those sportscasters who believe that bicycle racing is like watching exercise, so why is golf, bowling and NASCAR on every weekend?
