In Which I Agree With Shep

Here's a perfect example of a guy with important ideas... and who increasingly sabotages those ideas with crazy.

I used to watch Shep Smith back in Orlando in the early 90's when he was a bright young kid who was funny and sharp. I was sad to see him get turned to the FOX side, but in moments like this I see that kid coming through again. I hope this new age will allow him the confidence in his own convictions to make something more respectable of his career.

What, inDEED, was that? He couldn't have made his point without that racist shit? He couldn't have just gone with "toady" in the first place?

Ralph, you should be toast now--from a curled up, stale heel.

As Jon Stewart said re: Shepherd Smith last night: "He has his moments." I think it's impossible for him to turn off the smarm. He just sounds like that all the time. It's hard to choose my favorite part of that exchange. It's down to either "Really. Ralph Nader? What was that?" or Shep's jaw dropping as Nader calls him a bully after being told he's irrelevant. Nader then complains that Shep can see him, but he can't see Shep, like he's never been on television before.

I really liked Shep Smith's interview with "Joe the "Plumber", skewering him on his ignorant, bigoted, irresponsible comments about Obama causing the "death of Israel". The way he ended that interview with a disclaimer, shaking his head, saying that it was getting "scary" sometimes...

But yeah, he has a smarm problem. Another talking head I can't stand, even when I agree with her, is Campbell Brown. She's like the stereotype of the local news anchor.

I agree with Bob; Nadir's message, which is a good one, is completely overshadowed by his outlandish communication of said message. This is, to me, how he was happy to destroy the 2000 election. If you really parse what Nadir is about, it comes down to one thing: RALPH. It's all about RALPH. He talks about the downtrodden, but of all the people involved in the 2000 election, he alone had the power (not to get Gore elected, but to prevent Bush from being elected). He had the power to pull out, as he promised he'd do if it was close--he actually had the power to do that. But, like the Uncle Tom comment, at the end of it all he really only cares about one thing: RALPH. Where the fuck is RALPH for the intervening four years. Oh, I know, he's writing books about the plight of the Palestinian people, monitoring elections abroad, and building housing the homeless. Oh. Wait. Sorry, no, that's a different person altogether. RALPH is, um, what does he do again?

Oh, right, almost forgot: his job is to hold on to principles. Good job, that. Unfortunately, it led to the worst president in US history. Am I missing something here?

Ralph Nader has completed his journey to irrelevant dickdom.

Wow...

Well, he always wanted more face time. Now he's got it. Ralph Nader, who's legacy as a consumer advocate, Jebus, he gave us the seat belt for fuck's sake, will now be known as the "Jimmy the Greek" of American politics.

Uncle Tom? Really, Ralph. His explanation was spot on, but nobody heard it because of "Uncle Tom." It's a shame. The man has lost it. Guess we won't see him in 2012. I wonder what the half million people that voted for him think of that comment?

Holy Sweet Jesus! One of the most important talents for a president to have is the ability to lead and to get along with others. Nader has neither of those skills at all, only his beliefs and ideologies. I agree with much of his platform, but I am also a realist. Platform means nothing if you piss off the entire planet. The progressive left needs someone other than this crazy old nutbag to represent them as a presidential candidate. There will never be a real third party as long as candidates like Nader are running.

black and white thinking cancels out the best ideas..

It is a damn shame, and almost seems by design, that a guy like Nader - who is close to 100% correct on policy - is such a wackjob.
