Never Again
I agree with Sullivan about continuing to keep an eye on Sarah Palin's hijinks.
This deluded and delusional woman still doesn't understand what happened to her; still has no self-awareness; and has never been forced to accept her obvious limitations. She cannot keep even the most trivial story straight; she repeats untruths with a ferocity and calm that is reserved only to the clinically unhinged; she has the educational level of a high school drop-out; and regards ignorance as some kind of achievement. It is excruciating to watch her - but more excruciating to watch those who feel obliged to defend her.
Sound familiar? Personally, I'm thinking about 2012. Yeah, 2012. Already. Sarah Palin is George W. Bush v.2, only now we know what's coming. We can see it from miles away. It's like spotting the Japanese battleships leaving port on their way to Pearl Harbor. After this eight year dark ride, our collective national mantra has to be, "NEVER AGAIN."
Besides, it's funny and fun. Position flexible also.

A potential Sarah Palin presidency is a clear and present danger to the Republic. Luckily, we dodged a bullet by electing Obama, but amazingly, 46% of voters pulled the lever for McCain/Palin, despite the obvious risk.
There's something seriously wrong with a political culture that not only "elects" someone like George W. B*sh, but "re-elects" him after his stupidity, ignorance, arrogance, criminality and incompetence become blindingly obvious. We need to make sure that something like this never happens again.
I'm hoping that Obama's promise to improve education will result in a better-informed electorate down the road.

I think the question we need to ask ourselves is how do we allow people like this (Bush and Palin) get into such powerful positions?

I'm actually thinking it's more like position cowgirl, Bob. We gotta keep riding this story and make sure that as many people as possible know what the McCain campaign tried to do to us.
Sullivan is right - Palin is history that matters, even though I hate the fact that this woman continues to get attention than she doesn't even remotely deserve. But it is shameful that she was even thought of to be the VP, and that can't be ignored or allowed to be forgotten.
And she can be hilarious in her idiocy. She's the gift that keeps on giving in that department.

Watch this clip of McCain and Moosie with Brian Williams. Watch very closely this time. It's a short bit of it but very telling:

Funny clip, dontpanic23. The look on McCain's face was real though. I noticed it several times when he started appearing with her for all interviews.
As for palin running in 2012 (or 2016), don't be so quick to count her out. Once the economy and country are back on track, complacency will again set in and it will be easy to sway the sheeple - they sold w as a good-natured cowboy and stupidity as a good thing.

Somehow, we have to make sure that the ridicule ultimately overrides the admiration of the people who see only the spunk. (Lou Grant's "I hate spunk!" has never been more appropriate.)

More Palinspeak:
"But not me personally were those cheers for."
Just had to share. I hope someone is compiling all of this for a book.

I would also agree with Sullivan. I would play Devil's Advocate though and say that there were people in the national media calling this a farce and bringing the hammer down on Palin. Among them were Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow and Jack Cafferty - the most truthful person on CNN. In addition, without Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson, we would have had to dig deeper for the same amount of ammo.

I miss Lou Grant. Lou was the shit.
Peggy, I bet Bob is enjoying being an author enough that you could talk him into it, especially if you hit him when that first check comes in (if there aren't already 50 Palinisms books by that time--yesterday even).

Apparently she was on Blitzer today talking about Ayers because it's such a salient issue. (My word, not hers.) Question: When does she realize that the election's over and she's being that guy that uses a catchphrase from 20 years ago like it's still cool?
(Like, totally gnarly.)
I suppose it's possible she just wants to undermine an Obama presidency as much as possible.

I really have to ask... What do the people who like her hear when she speaks? Because I hear a jumble of key words and phrases slapped together with a glue made of also. It's like she knows what a leader is supposed to sound like but can't reproduce it and make it work, but the other people who hear it and like it... do they think "I don't get it but it sounds leadery"? Because if that's the case, our guys sound way more leadery. Or maybe Obama and Biden are a little too leadery and Palin's lack of sentence-building skills are a sign that she's mavericky, and that's better?
Great now my brain is starting to hurt. But let's not ask the people who like her to explain themselves, because dollars to donuts they'll just get angry. Because some tiny part of them will realize that they have no explanation, and it'll all end with a lot of crying and hand holding and until finally someone got talked into a handroll which I could've done better myself... (and a cookie to anyone who gets that last reference.)

I agree with Sullivan too... we have to keep an eye on this comedienne because she's sure to rear her head again.
trustno1:
The most hilarious part about that interview was in the Today interview (I think) she said she was happy to have Barack Obama as Commander-in-Chief.
So wait... she's alright with the guy being President even though he 'pals around with terrorist?'
This lady drives me mad...

What do Republicans have against the English language? Of they're so fucking smitten with English, they could at least bother to try learning it before they proclaim it our national language.
Sarah Palin just says shit. She has no idea what it means. She's like a 4th grader who just tries to put all of this week's vocabulary into one sentence without though as to whether it is coherent or not. She's just a total idiot, and too proud of her idiocy to realize it isn't a positive quality.

Only one caveat: the books and videos chronicling her stupidity should only come out AFTER she wins the nomination.

Any English lit folks around with some time on their hands? Could someone please parse her sentence "structure," in addition to her circular "logic."
Situation Flexible! Also!
Ari, well stated. Sarah is like an arrogant 4th grader on the short bus. I think Zach Galifianakis said it best:

Arggghhh....Will someone get this buffoon off the TV already....
Sarah "peeeuuu" Palin..this "empty bag" was a joke, a living and breathing example of how anyone, ANYONE can get elected to public office.......someone call Bill Maher or Woody Harrelson and get them to run for office in Alaska, at least its legal to possess marijuhana in that state.....
The McCaint campaign filled this "empty bag" full of lies, blatherings and slander but they forgot that there was a piece of crap in the bag already in the bag....and it smelled...really badly...and also causing the campaign to smell really badly as well..
The RNC/GOP lie machine have used her up and thrown her away....too bad that they spent what little money they had on designer clothing, Vuitton hand bags and makeup artists...all they really needed was a "fragrance consultant"...to cover up that awful smell.....
What's the difference between Sarah Palin and a "pit bull with lipstick"...you can sell the dog..
