Novak Hackery

Robert Novak yesterday on the president-elect's seven million vote margin:

[Obama] neither received a broad mandate from the public nor the needed large congressional majorities.

Robert Novak on President Bush's three million vote margin in 2004:

Q: Bob Novak, is 51 percent of the vote really a mandate?

NOVAK: Of course it is. It’s a 3.5 million vote margin. But the people who are saying that it isn’t a mandate are the same people who were predicting that John Kerry would win.

Eight or ten years ago, establishment pundits could get away with huge amounts of hackery, and I think people like Novak keep forgetting that the tubes exist where people can, you know, look things up.
