Lieberman's a dick. Circumcised.

Who is Joe Lieberman? Do you mean the republican in democrats close? I am sensing a new era of democratic pussiness. Obama has given him a pass on calling him a terrorist. The other senators will obey Obama's wishes. Joe is the black hand of death for presidential politics. If he is your supporter or running mate you fail. So there is a purpose for this assclown. Palin/Lieberman 2012 please.

Posted by: GItheJOE [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 6:26 PM

I think this whole thing is just to send the message to Joe Lieberman that he's now at their mercy and that he must remember to be sufficiently obsequious or his ass is gone.

Removing his Homeland Security Committee chairmanship is one thing, but removing his balls is another, and far more humiliating. If we eke out a win in Alaska and Minnesota, they should leave him for now and then remove him quietly in a few months when the country is basking in the glow of Obama's tremendously successful First Hundred Days.

I'll have to do some KO and Rachel watching on the DVR as I'll be watching the Jets/Pats game tonight. J-E-T-S! JETS! JETS! JETS! I'll stop by and say hi later.

Posted by: Broadway Carl [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 6:58 PM

Wow. Another interesting GDA day. New trolls and everything.

Go Begich! Go Franken! Go Martin! Go (away) Liebermann!

Posted by: jane [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 7:11 PM

Ahhh, Joe.

My hope is that Obama is playing good cop to allow him to stay above the fray when the Senators vote to cut his nuts off.

If Droopy Dog is allowed to keep his chairmanship it will send the message that Obama is more concerned with partisanship than the will of the voters.

Posted by: LiveFreeOrDie08 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 7:16 PM

Joe Lieberman is a political chameleon of no philosophical substance.
He's a complete and utter asshole.
He should be removed from any committee assignments, and his office should be moved to a broom closet in the basement of the Rayburn Office Building. No staff. A dial telephone. One of them.

Posted by: PackyJ [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 7:19 PM

Jeez Pat Buchanan is bitter and he's clinging to Sarah's "guns"

Posted by: jane [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 7:23 PM

Lizza and Cilizza and square glasses.

I should stop smoking crack before Hardball.

Oh, and FUUUUUUUckity fuck fuck FUUUUUCK the TypeKey.

Posted by: jane [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 7:34 PM

Can we not diss Joe tonight? Please? 'Cause as rotten as he's been about the GOP & McCain, he still votes our way on most issues that most of us consider important. Yes, he betrayed the Democratic Party, and yes, he deserves to be stripped of his chairmanship - should have happened when he switched to being an Independent - but as far as Senators as a whole go, he's a helluva lot better than a lot of them I could name (Roberts, Inhofe, Graham, Cornyn, Stevens, etc).
I hate that I want him gone & still feel like I should defend his record when people start ragging on that. Bitch about his behavior for the past 7 years, but not his record on social issues.
Please.

Posted by: ceu [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 7:36 PM

Hey I hear we're in a Global Economic Meltdown...

This thing on?

Posted by: jane [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 7:40 PM

ceu, aren't you a Connecticutian? uh, a Connectican? uh...

I thought he shoulda lost seniority running as an Independent. But really, does it matter which party he's in? I doubt his votes would change that much. You disagree?

Posted by: jane [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 7:44 PM

Hillary as Sec of State? Interesting

Posted by: Broadway Carl [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 7:57 PM

This thing was off. I could only see the first 2 posts for an hour, yet the count moved up on the main one. Stop passing the crackpipe, Jane, I've had enough.

And Ceu, I agree on Leiberman. I was just following the instructions of ragging on him for tonight for a while.

Posted by: dontpanic23 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:02 PM

So I may be hosting two coworkers' cats over the holidays. I am thinking of installing a webcam and selling Google ads.

It will be good practice for my old age as The Crazy Cat Lady.

Posted by: jane [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:03 PM

For can I use "for" any more? Fore!

Posted by: dontpanic23 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:03 PM

For, also.

Posted by: jane [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:05 PM

Jane you already are the CCL. Imagine what our dogs will do when we get your yowling webcam coming in. I'll have to fight Mona for the space under the desk.

Posted by: dontpanic23 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:05 PM

Loved the Position Camel, DP, by the way.

Posted by: jane [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:07 PM

I can't believe that Camel came from my mother.

Posted by: dontpanic23 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:09 PM

Voldemort the plumber?

Posted by: jane [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:10 PM

ceu:
I understand your distaste of ragging on Lieberman, but he deserves it.
He doesn't know where his loyalties lie, because his only loyalty is to Joe Liberman.

Oh. Fuck TypeKey.

Posted by: PackyJ [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:11 PM

I hope they're offering Clinton the Sec. of State so she can turn it down, having been offered a sweetheart spot, and go back to the Senate and become the awesome old lioness there. They have to quit dipping into the senate.

Posted by: dontpanic23 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:15 PM

I reserve my defense (like ceu's of Liebermann) for Chafee, victim of the Blue Wave of 2006. Joe Liebermann, not so much.

Posted by: jane [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:16 PM

Yeah, I liked Chafee. He looked aristocratic yet kindly. And leaned center.

Posted by: dontpanic23 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:17 PM

@Ceu

I can only imagine the conflict Connecticikites must be feeling over Joe. I don't think there's any danger of him voting with the Reptiles, though, so no matter what happens he's going to vote the way CT tells him to.

If Obama let's him out of this "unpunished" (bad choice of words, but that's basically it) Joe's vote will be seen as "bought", or worse it will be spun that Lieberman is the "golden vote" that gets things done, and thus embolden him to be a constant thorn. That can't be allowed to happen.

Joe's gotta go.

Posted by: LiveFreeOrDie08 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:17 PM

Yes, Jane - a Nutmegger. (it's not much but it's so much better than Connecticutian) (con-net-eye-CUE-shun)

No, Jane, I don't disagree. That's pretty much what I was trying to say [that his record indicates that he will vote with the left on social issues. Were he to resign (utter fantasy, is not gonna happen), there is no guarantee that Rell would appoint someone else who did. So strip him of his chairmanships but let him caucus with whichever group he chooses.]
He's going to vote however he wants anyway, so cut him loose and let him do that. But don't slam his record since that record is not bad - just his behavior since 9/11.
Shit - wish I hadn't said anything.

and since typekey fucked with me I got to see Packy's comment....

Yes, Packy, that's true. And I know he deserves it - it's just this thing inside me - sentimental, maybe - that makes me want to defend his record even though I dislike the man (voted for Lamont in 2006). It's like someone saying your town is full of doofuses - you defend it even if you agree with the opinion...ya know?

Posted by: ceu [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:19 PM

Is Keith one of us?

Posted by: dontpanic23 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:23 PM

Keith just played the "Keith in a Minute" video. Funny. :)

Posted by: ceu [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:23 PM

Ceu:
I actually do understand it.
I'm in Alaska, remember?
We're the state that foisted Sarah Palin on an unsuspecting world, re-elected Congressman Don (I'll bite you like a mink) Young, and may or may not have re-elected Ted (7-time felon) Stevens (I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Mark Begich's current 814 vote lead grows even larger during the next vote tally).
So yes, I really do understand.

Posted by: PackyJ [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:25 PM

Chafee is a good man. He was the lone Republican in the Senate to oppose the war in Iraq. I was very proud of him for that. He subsequently lost his Senate seat to a Dem, wrote a book and became an Independent. I used to see him in line at the deli from time to time. Thats Rhode Island for you.

Posted by: cminri [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:27 PM

My fingers are crossed, too, Packy And, honestly, if given the choice between Stevens & Lieberman, I'd go with Lieberman....but I still wouldn't shake his hand. :)

Still at 814? Didn't they count any ballots today or are new totals not available yet?

Posted by: ceu [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:27 PM

Cminri, that doesn't surprise me one bit. His loss was the only republican one I regretted going down. I watched him on some committee or another on tv (probably concerning the war) and took an instant liking to him, especially considering his party affiliation.

Posted by: dontpanic23 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:31 PM

Ceu:
They will be counting more tomorrow, and then awaiting straggler mail-in absentee ballots.
They are pretty sure they will have a final tally on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
Then of course, a recount may begin, depending on the percentage difference.
Steven's own pet pollster/political adviser, Dave Dittman, thinks it's over for his client. I hope he's right.

Posted by: PackyJ [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:35 PM

I voted against Chafee so we could get another Dem in the Senate in 2006. He hated doing that, but I felt I had think about the country and not just my state. He used to be mayor of the city I work in and is still well thought of here. I think he may have his eye on the Governor's Office - which would be fine with me. He votes his conscience and not the party line. Very refreshing.

Posted by: cminri [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:36 PM

Re Chafee: Pro choice, pro gay rights, anti ANWR drilling, anti death penalty. I think we should KEEP any Rs that think like that (ie The Position Flexible, and such as). Make the Rs deal with those voices internally.

Oh well, too late.

Posted by: jane [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:36 PM

Could we move Chafee to Delaware and let him take Joe's spot? What's the ruling on residency, etc? It'd be a nice recompense for Chafee, who really just got caught in the crossfire.

Posted by: LiveFreeOrDie08 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:48 PM

Jane - those are the same positions that Lieberman holds (except death penalty, which he supports for egregious crimes, but seems kinda wish-washy on it) Ya see what I mean?

And for the record, I like Linc Chaffee, too, but Sheldon Whitehouse is closer to me on policies & positions. :)

Posted by: ceu [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:49 PM

If we all flush at the same time like this there may be a big sucking sinkhole on the other side of the planet--a Goddamn Awesome Sinkhole.

Posted by: dontpanic23 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:49 PM

But ceu, and I consider this important, can you really imagine Chafee saying something like "If the _____s win we are in trouble"? His character seems (seems) to be of a higher quality than Joe's.

Posted by: jane [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:54 PM

Not to mention JL going to Tblisi (because Russia "invaded" Georgia).

Too much warmongery there for me.

Posted by: jane [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 8:57 PM

No, Jane, I can't - but that was my point. I don't like the guy, I don't like his behavior of late, I don't trust him BUT I do like his record (for the most part).

i'm in a mood, don't mind me...

Posted by: ceu [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 9:14 PM

824! Begich just told Rachel that he went up another ten votes over Stevens today!
And Begich can speak in complete sentences and uses G liberally!
(crossing fingers again)

just a shout out! sorta new here ... and sorta newly minted nutmegger [been here near hartford for a little over a year.]

Posted by: MBrown [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 9:20 PM

Hi ya, MBrown! There are a few Nutmeggers here. :)
I'm close to Htfd, too, but then it's CT where almost everything is close to Hartford. Where are you - north, south, east, west?

Posted by: ceu [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 9:42 PM

I take it back. Boot his ass NOW!

Posted by: ceu [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 9:46 PM

@ceu

you musta just watched rachel. i say kick'em to the curb, too!

i'm south. wethersfield. more mccain/palin supporters here than i expected.

Posted by: MBrown [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 10:28 PM

One of my jobs is in Rocky Hill. And I have family in Wethersfield. Definitely not a McCain supporter. :)
You shoulda seen back in 2006. Lieberman literally blanketed the Silas Deane with campaign signs. It was pretty hilarious - there were thousands of them - and the campaign, in their arrogance, didn't get permission from the property owners to put up the signs. Lots of unhappy people. Whoops!

Here is a website I thought a few of you might like.
I remember being so dissappointed Al Gore choose Joe Liberman. I just did not like him.

I can honestly say he makes my skin crawl. I hardly watch TV and for some unfortunate twist of fate I happened to see him on live tv at the Republican Convention. Stumbling on the Republican Convention is bad enough, but seeing that little, pastylooking creep all smiles and proud of himself was enough to scar me for life. I never want to see another picture of him ever! I even hate his voice. I am sure he is prejudice too. He must go.........

Posted by: leoaugust [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 11:06 PM

How cool! Next time you're in wethersfield give a shout! and come on by for coffee ... or even a beer! We're on Wells Road. Since the family and I are still sorta getting our bearings and haven't met a huge number of people it's always great to broaden our sphere.

I know I don't know you, but hell, here's my email address if you want to be spontaneous and hang out. We always lookin for info about where to go/what to do in Hartford and CT in general. mbrown565@gmail.com.

Posted by: MBrown [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 13, 2008 11:07 PM

Will do, MB. At the least I can ascertain your likes and maybe direct you towards things of interest. And you're within spitting distance of some of the best Italian food around - south end of Hartford. :)

Night, all. Thanks for letting me rant on & I apologize for killing the discussion.

Well, I signed in just to say goodnight and sign back off. Wish Joe the Lie was gonna be gone but it isn't looking too good.

Also, I think we should lay off the "also." It's starting not to look strange... :(

Night all!

Rachel Maddow had a great commentary on this tonight:

Lieberman will ultimately have to face the voters in Connecticut for his evil doings, and hopefully will be replaced by a real Democrat.
