Rainbow Friday

by Lee Stranahan

As I've written before, I lay a lot of the blame for the economy's current state on the giant corporations that run things. And tomorrow is Black Friday - when we're all supposed to be good little consumers and get up early in the morning, battle other consumers and buy lots of stuff. But from what I've seen of the Black Friday sales, they are lame, almost non-sales.

So I propose a new idea - Rainbow Friday. The idea is simple - people in online communities like this one just buy one thing from other people in that community tomorrow. It's US helping each other. Simple example - buy a copy of Bob's book as a gift. That's simple because we all know about Bob's book.

But what do YOU have for sale? Let's use the comments here to list stuff you sell. Anything - crafts you made on Etsy, music you created on CDBaby, services, ANYTHING - tell the other goddamn awesome people here about what you do and how we can buy it and let's all try to give each other a little shot in the arm.

Here's an example : tell us what you have for sale and link to it. Tomorrow, browse and buy.

Film, video and media makers - you can buy stock footage and animation I've produced at Revostock.com

This is such a great idea, Lee. Here's the GDAB store. And the book. Plus, my wife's Etsy store. If you dig vintage clothing, she's having a sale all day Friday.

Hey there fans of Bob!

I've been a fly on the wall for a while here, and let me say- I've been really happy to find a place (other than the homebrew enthusiasts site) where I can read the comments without going cookoo. I really appreciate a little intelligent commentary and feedback.

Anyhoo... I thought of a great idea for christmas gifts that I wanted to share. I'm gonna make a batch of homemade hot sauce. And I'm pretty stoked about it.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but, in regards to Lee's proposal- no disrespect, how ya doin'- I want to add that, especially during this consumer frenzy, we ought to support the kind of eco-concious and cool companies that will leave us feeling good about it. And make gifts things that are truly useful, and not just another crappy Christmas present on it's sorrowful route to the dumpster.

Oh, and if your into hot sauce, or know someone on your list who is, check out the Boulder hot sauce company. Good stuff!!

Good hot sauce and craft brew beer. Mmmmm... almost enough to make me move back to the States.

Since I already bought Bob's book I don't feel so bad plugging something.

If anyone out there is a video editor or uses Avid for editing, you/they may enjoy one of these items:

http://printfection.com/mcstate

If you're unsure what to get your editor friend, the Avid users have gravitated to the things with "Media Offline" on them, and video editors have been going for the color bars and vector scope stuff.

Happy Happy Joy Joy to all!

I sell sports themed tshirts, mainly Buffalo related though. A few others. Just click on my name. I'm also available for graphic design and photography services anytime.

Here is the website of one of my best friends of many decades. He is a singer/songwriter who makes and distributes his own CDs as Nightjar Records. He is a folkie who lives in southern Wisconsin with his wife and young son, writes much of his own material and sounds like a cross between Townes Van Zandt and Greg Brown. He was also the person who turned me on to Phil Ochs and does many of his songs in live performances. If anyone is interested:

http://www.nightjarrecords.com/

Even if you don't buy, he's an interesting story. Great idea, Stran.

I've just put five of Bob's book into my Amazon shopping cart, and if Lee was selling something for the plebs, I'd be buying that, too. Any chance of having 30 Days/30 Reasons on a DVD in time for the hollerdays?

From us, you can buy our Obama soap on a rope, called HOPE ON A ROPE.

Despite CNN's allegations to the contrary, we're not just in this for the money. And we do give a third of our profits for the sale of this soap to Habitat for Humanity.

Or you could buy something else, if you don't want to bathe with Barack. Or just tell me what you think!

You can also check out our Etsy listings, which has lots of new stuff we test there before putting it on our website.

If you mention you found us through GDAB, I'll refund your shipping costs!

Lee, thanks for this idea! I'm going to poke around and see what I can support! :)

I'll plug my son's father's efforts - he runs an independent music label, and there's a very nice Christmas CD single available which might be appreciated (it's a nice jazzy kind of piece)

Christmas in New York City

And as a free download, you can get a great song from an up and coming artist named Maddy - who has a cute song called "Peppermint Picnic".

Happy Rainbow Friday! :)

Great idea.

I'm selling a humorous self-help book called, Confessions Of A Self-Help Junkie. If you know any SH junkies that need a good laugh or a gentle nudge to "back away from the the self-help section of their local bookstore" this would make a great gift.

You can check it out on my blog: www.enterthecircle.com

This an awesome idea!

It reminds me of something something we do at my office around the holidays. I work for a small non-profit agency and just before Christmas everyone brings in a 1 or 2 items from home that they really want or need (i.e. inappopriate gift recieved in the past). We then have a silent auction among our staff with these items and donate the proceeds to a charity (usually our local food bank). Its a lot of fun, we get rid of stuff around the house and we help those in need.

argh! above sentence should have said "everyone bring in an item they really DONT want or need!"

sorry!

May I suggest my wife's new mosaic poster of Barack Obama? Only $20 for this one-of-kind original image:

http://revolutionaryviews.com/obama_poster.html

Here's here description:
"I'm a photographer. I photograph interactive panoramas for websites and newspapers. When I photographed Obama rallies I could always find a spot on the risers that faced the sea of people. The rest of the press was there to photograph Barack Obama, I was there to document the enormity of the events, the people who attended. I wish you could have seen what saw I every time I stood up on the press risers and looked into the crowd.

Barack Obama would say that this wasn't about him, it was about us. I heard his message of inclusion and unity when he spoke and when I looked out into the crowds I saw that same message. The largest and most diverse crowds I've ever seen gathering together to be a part of this process, many for the first time.

I wanted to illustrate what I saw every time I climbed to the top of those risers and looked out into the crowd. This what I saw.

This is a photo mosaic created from many of the faces of people who attended the Barack Obama rallies that I photographed."

What a great idea, Lee! Greeting from the Virgin Islands. I rarely comment but read the blog every day. As a struggling long time jazz vibraphonist I hope this community can help me slow the decline into musical oblivion.
Check out my site at http://www.donmoors.com and, if any of my five CD's appeal to you, you can get them directly there.(You'll all love the Christmas CD if I do say so myself…)
And I also agree, if you let me know (use my feedback link) that you were referred from GDAB, all shipping will be graciously refunded.
Thanks for looking and enjoy!!

My love has her own website company. She'll give you your own blog for $1,000.00. Expensive, eh? Not when it doesn't involve TypeCrap. You own the users, and you can be as flexible as you want, such as creating a users area only" Cescans and hateCescans for example.

FrictionSoul - so, if we raise $1000, we can buy Bob a new blog site? How much to transfer his registrations and retain his archives?

Responding to Josie (if she checks back): the poster is 18" x 24". I have one over my desk at work and it's the perfect size. Not too big, not too small, and big enough that you can see the faces clearly including Barack, Michelle and a bunch of people we actually know (including a couple of me :D )

I love your wife's vintage boutique, by the way, Bob. I covet that 50's quasi-cloche! Woo!

I'm here: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5529450

Not nearly as cool, but a lot that I put myself into, literally, before listing. I am closing her down on Christmas Day, mostly because I can't afford it anymore. I can't afford much of anything, really. :(

Oh! If you like vintage, then you'll loveeeee my hubby's vintage-style pulp fiction. You can check him out here: http://www.lulu.com/content/4328178

He'd be so appreciative if you swung (swinged?) by and gave him a look-see!

23 skiddoo, folks.

Ha, what a fun idea.

Welp, I'm a longtime lurker and Quoter of Bob on my own blog, and in my daytime life I sell Cutco Cutlery, which, if you're familiar with it, is some of the best kitchen cutlery/cookware in the world.

Great gift for Xmas, Hanukkah, Chrismukkah, or whatever else.
