The White Vote

Exit polling from the NY Times:

• Nationally, five percent MORE white people voted for President-elect Obama than voted for Senator Kerry.

• +7 in the rural vote for the president-elect over Kerry.

• In Indiana, the white vote was +22 over Kerry. And, get this, Kerry was +4 better among African Americans four years ago in Indiana.

• Whites +7 in Ohio. +15 in Virginia. +17 in North Carolina.

This kills any assumptions from the right that Obama won just because of the African American vote (the Limbaugh "totally about race" argument). It was a powerful coalition of all races that led to victory.

I know at least one very cute white guy who was in that coalition. ;) Thanks, Bob! :)

I know of some seriously hot white chicks in that +17 in North Carolina (Carolona, Bob?) too. ;)

North Carolona

Don't they make crayons or something there?

Posted by: Alan4s [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 5, 2008 3:38 PM

It doesn't kill their assumptions Bob. The Limbaughs of the world do not take facts or logic into account when stating their useless opinions.

I just want to know why he can't close the deal with blue collar, white Americans? And what of the Bradley Effect? BRADLEY EFFECT!!

Posted by: amaraya [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 5, 2008 3:47 PM

True JM. But I would LOVE to know what Limpsack is expounding upon today.

That douchebag must me in a paranoid, frantic fit today.

Posted by: incredulous72 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 5, 2008 3:57 PM

I do not buy into the "Bradley Effect".

Posted by: Poleezz [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 5, 2008 4:01 PM

Huff had a story on Limpsack.

I saw it but didn't read it.

Cacti sent me a link to a story about how the female vote was what really nailed it.

Well as D.L. Hughley said on his [pretty funny] CNN show on Saturday, while discussing The Bradley Effect with Al Sharpton:

"Everyone wants to be black until the police show up."

Posted by: grcratty [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 5, 2008 4:08 PM

Ok, I took one for the team and forced myself to listen to about 10 minutes of Limbaugh today (yes, it's kinda like that temptation to stare at the car accident as you pass by it on the freeway). To him, it's all about race. Blacks only voted for Obama because he's black. Whites voted for Obama to relieve themselves of what he calls "white guilt." Just the same old divisive, racist bullshit coming from the mouth of the drug-addled child molester. I certainly don't begrudge this waste of human filth his right to free speech, only that he thinks his opinion is somehow still relevant.

Posted by: Leeman67 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 5, 2008 4:29 PM

Thanks Lee for taking one for us. I couldn't bare to read the article. Not today. Or any day. But especially not today.

Posted by: Poleezz [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 5, 2008 4:35 PM

You are the best, Lee. I know I couldn't stomach listening to that shitbag (although I was curious about what he was saying).
Basically, same crap, different day.

I wonder will it ever dawn on his audience that everything he spews is a bold-faced lie?
I wonder will it ever dawn on him that his audience is getting smaller and smaller?
I wonder if he'll barricade himself in his house and start broadcasting on short-wave radio? ;-)

Posted by: incredulous72 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 5, 2008 4:48 PM

LOL incred. I wonder if he'll ever state that a comet is coming by the earth to sweep everyone away to heaven.

If so, I'm going into Kool-Aid sales 'cause I'll make a mint!

Posted by: grcratty [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 5, 2008 4:53 PM

Well, the police showed up in NC and I stayed. So I must be black.

Carolona: that's us. A box of crayons with blue shades mostly in the middle and bright red around most of the outsides. Has our count ever come in? Anybody catch that?

Posted by: dontpanic23 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 5, 2008 4:53 PM

Mmmmm; Cherry-Mint Kool-Aid grcratty ...

I'll spring for Kool-Aid! LOL!

Okay, North Carolinians - I thought you guys were gonna bring it home? When are we gonna see the blue lights over there!

Well it looks like the white bibble belt is all the republicans have left

Perhaps it should be renamed racist belt or retard belt. Maybe jackass belt.

I was at Grant Park last night (unbelievable), so I've just been wading through all the comments and threads here in Cescaland, and you guys made me cry all over again...

No more commenting this afternoon - I need some quiet contemplation (and some sleep!). But all I will say is that my faith i humanity has been restored, and the images I saw last night will be burned into my memory forever.

May the great flying spaghetti monster bless President-Elect Obama, and his family. ;o)

bob...the best part about this election for me was getting my mom,a lifelong republican who twice voted for bush,to vote for barack obama.i spent more than six months attempting to break down the walls of fox news conservatism which had built up over so many years.shes always been a very smart, compassionate, religous woman, very set in her beliefs in regard to liberalism in general and race in particular.
anyway, this blog youve created has been my most effective tool in convincing her what liberals truly believe and stand for.her views had always been shaped by the absolute worst of the far right wingnuts.and so,again,i cant thank you enough.i truly believe that you represent everything great about liberalism.

Oh! I came here to post some good news but got distracted by 24hourjack's moving testimony!

Guess what! I got Bob's book on my Kindle! :) It was finally available today, and I bought it!

The free chapter was great, so I'm looking forward to all the rest!

I am very excited about the result--save a few races, but is anyone else here a little disappointed at the turnout numbers? I actually thought it would be way over 130 million--as it stands now, it doesn't seem to be that much more than '04. Someone, please talk me down on this...

Posted by: JG [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 5, 2008 7:02 PM

JG - I'm not dissapointed by the turnout numbers because a lot of those who did not turnout, were jaded republicans.

Also observe the demographics and age groups of who voted. That alone will force changes in policy for both parties.

Its an especially big problem for the republican party. They can't base their entire philosophy and policies on a group of voters who become more irrelevant by the day. Irrelevant not only in their beliefs but also their dwindling numbers.

Posted by: J M Ashby [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 5, 2008 7:08 PM

yeah, I hear you, but I thought it would be a bit bigger--next gripe--why is the media turning to so many right wingers for advice on what the Dems should do? Unreal.

Get ready for the BBQ pit's fake balance brigade...
